Henry Greenly
Henry Greenly
Most of the works of Henry Greenly passed into the public domain at the start of the year (author's life + 70 years). Mr. Greenly passed away in 1947. He produced many excellent books, and dozens of locomotive designs from 1-3/4 inch gauge up to 15 inch gauge. This list even includes some fine American designs.

Re: Henry Greenly
7.5" Gauge 6" scale Greenly Pacific here!! And she looks Greenly doesn't she! As of mid January she is about to come out of a heavy overhaul with new stays and flues and a configuration that will much more closely resemble Green Goddess.
Re: Henry Greenly
Dnevil,
Thanks for sharing. Any idea as to which book(s) focused on the 15" gauge designs?

jlakes85,
Not sure, the only title I have is "The Miniature World of Henry Greenly", and it wasn't written by him. I will do more searching and acquiring, and will let you know if I find which of his books covers 15 inch gauge.
Happy steaming,
Daris

Re: Henry Greenly
Not sure if you noticed, but Maxitrak in England offers drawings of Greenly's 15 inch designs.

I purchased the American 4-6-4/4-8-4 drawings a couple of years ago, and they are good quality scans.

Re: Henry Greenly
What an IMPRESSIVE line up of locomotive drawings available from Greenly!!
Re: Henry Greenly
The two best known Greenly books, the one you have, and "Greenly's Model Steam Locomotives" were edited compilations of his earlier works compiled by Ernest A. Steel, and Elenora H. Greenly Steel, daughter of Henry Greenly, who were husband and wife. His first book was "The Model Locomotive" published in 1904, and later followed by "Model Steam Locomotives" published in 1922.

Re: Henry Greenly
The 1904 book contains a lot of the foundations of the modern hobby. Way back then they were thinking of all of the issues that arise when scaling down. It's an interesting read. The updated compilations are nice as well, which contain more modern information and lessons learned along the way.
