Boiler Check Valve Manufacturer?

Post by doublereefed »

Does anyone recognize this boiler check valve, and who the manufacturer is/was?

Looks like it could be an Allen or a Locoparts.

With the injector style nut on the bottom, it’s an Allen. I know where the tooling is. . . And have ten test sets of castings to try out. If things work out, this check valve may become available again.

SZulderveen, I'd like 3 when they are ready. Make the top cover with a much larger hex than are shown on the one I have.

The LocoParts boiler check valves are similar. They have a larger hex on cap, instead of a spammer nut for union connection it has hex union nut. There is hex on boiler fitting for tightening the the check in to the boiler. The boiler check valve body is lost wax silicon bronze casting.
And they are in stock.

Doublereefed...will 2nd your request for a larger hex on the check valve cover! Went thru this back in 2014 when the top hex was destroyed trying to remove the cover. Could not get that cover to budge. So...removed the check valve from the loco. Milled off the original hex (what was left of it). Drilled a hole in the top. Silver soldered a very shortened stainless 10-32 hex screw (left a stub to fit in the drilled cover hole). After soldering, sand blasted the check valve. And then...was able to remove the top nut. The O-rings were destroyed in the process...and replaced. Check valve returned to service...and still in operation! Photos attached.

Perhaps you can save you check valve yet. Hope this gives you an idea for repair... Carl B.

While we are at it, does anybody know where I can get a boiler check valve for a 1" scale locomotive?

Do you need a drawing? They are not difficult to make.

Carl B, I'm on it! Great idea. Thanks. I have 2, will do both that way. I would like to find 1 more so that all 3 match.

I hope this is just as easy.
I’d like a top mount double check with diffuser for a 1-1/2” scale project. Any thoughts? Anyone ever make one from a drawing?
Even commercially?
A Nathan Type T would be nice but not picky at this point.

I'm going with a an angle globe valve mounted to the boiler fitting, with a globe check valve immediately preceding it until something better surfaces. This at least lets you shut off boiler pressure if you need to mess with the check valve. LocoParts or PM Research valves will work.
