Post by jessebanning »

We are pleased to announce that we are offering fully machined bolt together kits for the 0-4-0 switcher. This includes finished and tested boiler. All machine work is CNC machined. All the sheet metal for the tender tank it water jet cut, pre bent/formed and the frame is finished. ALL components are finished. Hardware included. Plumbing is NOT included and is left to the builder since it is application varies between builders.

There are 15 stages. Total cost on the kit is $24,500. There are some options available for additional costs. We are only doing a run of 5 kits now. We will do another 5 for a different locomotive after these (yet to be determined). The deadline to reserve the machined kit is January 10 2020. Delivery of last section is July 2020. 6 months for 15 sections. Deposit of $8000 required. 2 more payments of $5500 will be made every 2 months and final payment of $5500 upon completion/delivery of last section.

Seems a little steep. But machining work ain't cheap. But I do love the idea/concept of a completed, bolt together steam Locomotive kit.

The kit will be very similar to the Mogul kit OS used to offer. That kit was offered at $19,950 back in 2010.

if you do as good a job as OS with their models, they will be worth every penny.

Good luck to you
Too many things going on to bother listing them.

...Not counting increase in labor costs...

'Looks like a reasonable offering, especially for those with $$ and little time /machining capabilities.
'Hope they sell well. Lots of effort on your part.

I think that this will be very good for the hobby.

Not everyone has the time / ability / equipment / desire to do all the machining.

Agreed - I should of been a bit more verbose - that is less than $1,00 difference and if you do the math, that is about a 4% difference in prices. Plus, the deliver is next year, not this so inflation could well make it equal in the time. Not hating or putting anybody down.

Having known a fair amount of people that retired, and then went to pursue their lifelong hobby dreams only to pass away before they ever got anything finished, I think it's money well spent.
Jesse, what do you estimate the build time at on one of these kits?
When you say plumbing isn't included, is the boiler, cylinders, and so on pipe tapped or come with flanges/connections?

The last section of the kit will be delivered in July. So build time is 6 months. Every month you will get a few sections. Boiler is included. "plumbing" refers to the actual plumbing (pipe work). The cylinders will be tapped and the throttle will be finished.
