There is an ebay auction for a Baltimore & Ohio 5300 in 1 inch scale that claims to be based on Doug Alkire's design.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/163967469755?ul_noapp=true
It includes a set of drawings. Are Doug's drawings preserved anywhere?
Thanks,
Daris
Drawings for Alkire's B&O Pacific
Re: Drawings for Alkire's B&O Pacific
Daris,
I have the Alkire drawings for the 5300 in 1 in scale.
I also have the Coventry drawings for the 5300 in 3/4 in scale.
I have lots of photos from two visits to the B&O museum.
PM me your snail mail address and i'll mail you a CD with the stuff.

Re: Drawings for Alkire's B&O Pacific
Thanks for posting the url to the auction. Interesting stuff.
I don't know what Doug Alkire used on his loco, so can't comment if the loco in the auction follows his or not, but the top casting in the lead truck is a casting from the "Doc Fixit" patterns for the SP A-6 atlantic. This is not the lead truck design that would have been under the B&O president class, as the lead truck used under the A6 class was retained from the A3 class they were constructed from. That lead truck design dates from about 1906. You can see this lead truck design on the SP Atlantic on display in Griffith park in LA. Fwiw.

Doug Edwards

The boiler is a mess...
Too many things going on to bother listing them.
Re: Drawings for Alkire's B&O Pacific
It looks like bronze brazing rather than silver solder. Low heat issues evident on the top rear?

Could be Sil-Fos, judging from the color.

A member of Los Angeles Live Steamers now owns Doug Alkire's 5300 President Washington. This member brings the engine to the club anytime there is a 1" scale "Steam Meet". STILL a beautiful model after all these years....very well maintained .
