CSME Double Tracking Progress
Once more into the breach!
If you have been to Eaglepoint RR in Chattanooga in the last year or so you probably seen the persistent work by members to double track the old main from Eaglepoint to Saddleback. Right now this amounts for about 3/5 of the original main line. All of this effort is two part: 1) to reduce the congestion created by traffic branching off for the mountain division and 2) straightening curves and bumps to make at the original main more accommodating to engines like 4-8-4s, 2-8-4s, 4-8-2s and other similar large stuff. With this project we are also upgrading the double main signals to automatic block.
We were making good time till the snow started creeping in...
Well enjoy the pics and check back here for periodic updates.

Looks good! Also looks hard fought where the rock retaining wall had to be pushed out and filled to suit the 2nd line.

CSME Double Tracking Progress - Winter progress
Ok, time for an update.
This portion of work was completed in a few work sessions between December 2018, Feb 2019 and March 2019. While water does freeze in Tennessee, it isn't impossible to keep working, that and the winter was not too harsh. The pictures are of Saddleback Wye and the dominant main line (the double track one) that goes through it. A 2nd survey showing a great improvement of the previous; a few dips to clean up but well thats why we measure our work during construction not after it. All in all a lot of hard work and a positive step in the right direction.
Next up? Hooking Chestnut grove to Gargoyle... Baring the break out of the Apacolypse, we should have these two major sections connected by the Spring Meet 2019. Come on out and take a gander.

Re: CSME Double Tracking Progress
Time for an update...
It seem like there is never enough dirt... I mean time... Or both actually. The usual suspects were at it again in the last few weeks and we now have the track all the way up to the twin bridges. Sorry no pictures. This last will connect the run from Saddleback all the way to Stillhouse.
But I do have a few photos to share of still house siding. This siding is the next big area or construction. The stillhouse bridge is being double tracked and a Helper siding is being added in the middle of the two mainline tracks. This is sorta based on Saluda grade and will be the prototype helper addition / layover point for trains going up the mountain division. Momentum is up and should be in by Fall meet.
Work is also starting on the Eagle Point end of things. We are excavating our parking lot so we have lot dirt to get rid of. Well, that's just a good time to put it on the main line. See photos.
See you at the track.

Re: CSME Double Tracking Progress
We're off and running again. Started the demo work on the EP - Summit Main section. Since this pic was taken we have put about 1/3 of main #1 back in. Should have it all done by Spring meet. Come and see.

I took the first four photos in the thread and turned them right side up. Got tired of cranking my head over. Thanks for the update. Looking forward to seeing Eagle Point again in the near future. Lots of hardwork going on with the retaining wall and the track. Looks nice!
