I don't visit this forum as much as I should, so I don't know if this subject has been talked about.
I just finished building a "Lil Popcorn Engine" and at the present powering it by compressed air.
I would like to build a small boiler so I can run it on steam. All it needs is about 5 to 10 lbs to run it.
Does anyone know where there might be some plans?
TIA

Re: Boiler plans
You will need to provide size requirements,
Im not sure the type of engine you are talking about or the size of the engine,
This info will help out for sizing the boiler for your needs

If it is not live steam. its not worth it.

Re: Boiler plans
Hi Chris,
This is a very small engine, 3/4" bore with a 1 1/4" stroke. I'm not into the "Big Iron" just small engines that I can do on my small equipment.
Thanks

Re: Boiler plans
It sounds like something about the size of PMR Boiler #2, a Stuart 4 (SV-4 or SH-4) the old 504, or Cheddar Proteus should be adequate steam wise. If you don't plan to work it too hard.
I noticed 2 or 3 sets of model boiler plans up on ebay yesterday, but what size, style or quality I didn't look to see. They should still be there, smart search for "live steam".
Last time I bought just plans off PMR (for a customer) they were about $5-6 per sheet, but I simply don't know offhand how many sheets are involved in the Boiler #2. If you don't turn up plans elsewhere, contact me off list and I'll see what I can do about getting them. The entire boiler kit (castings, materials, rivets & silver solder) is $170.00.
PMR Boiler #2
3" dia., 11" long, 127 sq.in. heating surface.
The RTR boilers this size are usually in the $500-$650 range.

Re: Boiler plans
Try Coles' Power Models, Reeves Drawing No. M4 or L086. Either of these plans would produce a boiler that will suit your needs. Last time I bought any from them the cost was $5.00. Check their on-line catalogue at www.colespowermodels.com or call 1-818-762-0272.
