This is well below the standards of the craftsmanship I have seen on this forum, but I though you guys might get a kick out of my newbie porter model (based on no prototype). It is battery powered and I saw one similar to it at this year’s Train Mtn. Tri-annual. If anyone knows who owns that cute little 0-4-0 porter with the red saddle tanks, I sure would like to know! As my skills improve, I hope to make a true live steamer.

I assume you mean the electric one that has a train of 4 cars,

Well that member is part of the LA club, but his engine had a tragic end over the weekend and is no more. I am not naming him as he is in mourning over this. No people involved, just a poor outcome in putting it away for the night.
So as time goes by info may be released. Too bad, he put a lot work into his train.

I think I have read about your engine somewhere. Perhaps on the My Large Scale forum, or another modeling forum. Regardless, it is quite interesting and it looks like a really nice engine.

Hi, I'm absolute sorry to read about this.

I met him the first time 2000 during the IBLS Sout Rumble after the big event at Train Mountain and chatted a long time with him, because I owned only a battery-powered diesel-switcher at that time.

I saw him (his kids) running the train this year at the Triennial,

and again at Bitter Creek, where I had another nice chat with him.

I hope to read a little bit about what happened to the engine :( :( :(

Greetings from Germany

Yes, that’s the one I was talking about. Now I really am sorry that I was unable to get photos and talk with the owner. :(

I checked my photos, but I have only a couple from Train Mountain.

At Bitter Creek, I made a short video with the train passing by:

I too know the owner, as he is a friend of mine. I was not there Saturday night at LALS to see the crash, but talking to another member, all I can say is this:

Always put a dead man switch on any electric locomotive you own. Either on the controller if 1.5 " scale and below, or some sort of floor pedal.

A very sad loss of a train, plus damage to two others in the barn.

Thanks for posting the YouTube video. I have a spring loaded scooter twist throttle on mine. As soon as you let go, it pops back to the off position.
I really like the riding cars he has and would like to duplicate them.
Joel

BTW you really have me curious now as to the nature of the accident. As an avid RC pilot, I can say that I have made the “walk of shame” (under the scrutiny of the public and snickers of fellow hobbyist) out to more than one of my crashed models! :x

Rangerjoel: You do realize that with R/C models it is not a case of if you stack it in its when. I built and few R/C models for years. Don't have a one that survived. I must admit I lost interest in R/C planes when I learned to fly the full size ones in the mid 50s. Bill
