Re: U.P. Steam Shop 4014 Update 01-03-2018

And Mark, I agree about brasses and the like. I know 113 has taken some flak from the arm-chairs because they got the boiler up to snuff and started running with very little work done to the running gear. Now thatwork is getting done. No harm no foul.

For the record I'm still sore that they didn't paint 4501 green. ;)

Re: U.P. Steam Shop 4014 Update 01-03-2018

I get what you're saying about only do the things you have to do, but I would put new steam and brake piping pretty hight on the list of stuff I don't want to fail out on the system. A few weeks ago I was stripping the brake piping off the tender frame of 3713 at Steamtown and some of the piping was...

Thanks Mark. I'm just starting to really dabble in photography that doesn't involve my smart phone.

I believe the bright minds at FWRHS have been working on a way to make a PTC-compliant system for 765.

Re: SPUD

I spent Saturday night on the 113, but since the fire was already banked before I got there at 10pm I was little more than glorified security since the engine was out in the open. Local PD did stop to chat for a few minutes before taking off to chase an ATV speeding on a public street. It got down t...

Re: Coal 2-8-2 in Japan Converted to 'Air'

We occasionally use compressed air to move the 113 (usually just a few feet back and forth for various reasons) and we pressurize the boiler from our portable compressor. You won't go far before the pressure drops off too much to be of any use.

Re: Big Steam Being Restored List 2017

All of that is true, but on the flip-side Andy is receptive enough to let our entirely volunteer-maintained CNJ 113 run on his rails, with his coaches, his train crews, and his insurance, so I can't really complain about anything he wants to do. The 2102 holds a special place in my heart, so I of co...

Oh trust me I'm very excited about 2102. Andy keeps waffling about accepting volunteer help, but if they do, I'm on the list.

Re: Choo Choo time next week

I heard you had to replace a staybolt. Sounds like it was quite a feat to get it done as quickly as you did.

My weekend was fine, got to fire the 113 part of the light move on Friday, and got to throw a few scoops in #26 at Steamtown on Saturday.

Re: The 'J' - Where is it allowed to operate?

Currently they're allowed to run anywhere on NS as long as they pay for the insurance. From the sounds of things this weekend, they're talking with Amtrak to get certified and possibly take the J other places. So far the VMT has had zero interest in operating the J outside of VA/NC, but I believe de...
