Re: Off topic - Go To Roundhouse

Mark, what basic blocks did he start with? Sounded pretty darn good.

That doubleheader must have been something to behold. I'm jealous, Tom.

Re: What's Up With $OO Line 2816?

Mark, the Rocky Mountain Express is a DVD/movie feature published in 2011 by Age of Steam Productions, which I'm sure is not related to the late Jerry Jacobson's age of steam. It is very well done and worth seeing. Mike Morgan sent me a BluRay version of it last Christmas. It of course does feature ...

Looked good to me, Mark. What equipment were you using? Is that a water tower off in the distance alongside the other track?

Thanks for those, Tom. Looking forward to more. C&TS does some fine things with their fleet.

Re: Mr. Jerry Jacobson

Ouch, that's quite a surprise. Yreka Western 19 was just delivered to Jerry's collection. I hope the future does not mean the end of his terrific roundhouse and shops. Rest in Peace, Jerry.

Re: 4014 at Promontory Point in 2019

What is the tube/flue length on a Big Boy? Those two boiler sections don't look like the boiler itself is much longer than that of a 4-8-4. The firebox is enormous. I remember looking into 4014's when it was still at Rail Giants.

Re: Oregon Coast Crawler, Sept 30th

Mark, No. I need to get a ride with some other fan. I have done this trip in the past and it's fun. Last month my friend Bill Killion, who used to run the Yreka 19, came up from CA and we drove to the Oregon Coast Scenic only to find that 25 was undergoing a boiler wash that day. The best laid plans...

John Bohon in print

It is always nice to find the face that matches the name in these forums. Being a big steam fan, I had to order Trains magazine's special, Big Steam is Back , which arrived this week. There are some good articles and some so-so. One of the best was written by G. Mark Ray, concerning the colossal reb...

Re: One for NYCMan

Thanks, John, and I sure wish we were both going along with 4449 and crew this weekend. I'm glad 999 was preserved. In other NY Central stuff, did you see what the 765 crew did in Chicago? They went to LaSalle St. Station and had the NYC Hickory Creek bringing up the rear with the 20th Century Limit...

Re: Milwaukee 261 on the Red River Valley & Western

Great photos, Kevin, and thanks for sharing them. You are certainly getting around to all the steam operations! Speaking of that, come on out here to Oregon this weekend to catch 4449 running between Portland and Bend. Sorry you and Mark did not get together.

Re: Big Steam Being Restored List 2017

SP&S 700 is not being restored, but is going through it's 15 year inspection, form 4 stuff. I would word this "temporarily out of operation" as she is operational.

Mark, remember this? You alerted me to the doubleheader rumor and I made it back to Minnesota to ride.. This shot taken at the St. Paul station at the end of the trip, and both engines are backing out to a wye to eventually split up and return to their home bases.

Re: Choo Choo time next week

Mark, thanks for the true scoop (pun intended). Sounds like good old steam railroad American ingenuity, that fix. You guys will do anything necessary to meet your schedules. Nice work by the entire crew.
