Re: Amtrak

The said thing is, reading the Minnesota Railroad Passenger Association newsletter, the long distance trains actually can do pretty well. The passenger count per mile on the Empire Builder is pretty good they say. Nobody is obviously taking them who is in a hurry, but they do want to be comfortable....

Re: Amtrak

Mark, Back to your first post regarding connecting regional railroads together. Lets think about the Empire Builder service to the west coast. Suppose we started on the TC & W and went west instead of the BNSF. What could the next link in the chain be? Is there anyway through the Dakotas? Once r...

Tapatalk seems to be working...but not too many people are using it.

It is an app that runs on android and iphones for browsing web based forums.

And we are back!

And we are back!
There could be a problem or two yet, I try to fix things as soon as possible.
Tapatalk is installed!
You can also change board styles if you wish, but this new version should be more mobile friendly.

Software Upgrade--September 13th at 8:15am

The software will be upgraded at 8:15am this morning. (Central time)
It may take all day, but lets hope it is quicker.
You may also see some issues with DNS as we are changing hosts.
I apologize for any confusing this may cause.

Patrick C. Dorin, author & railroad historian

My father, Patrick C. Dorin has died at the age of 75. He was an avid railfan and wrote literally dozens of railroad history books, starting with Lake Superior Iron Ore Railroads, in 1970. http://www.superiortelegram.com/content/dr-patrick-c-dorin I believe he was a fantastic railroad historian and ...

Re: Lima to Huancayo

Yes, the curves are very tight.
The coaches are very short compared to US standards...and the wheels and brakes were screaming a lot through the mountains!

Lima to Huancayo

I never seem to get a chance to post anymore, but a few weeks ago I was fortunate enough to be able to ride a special train in Peru. The train went through the Andes, from Lima to Huancayo. The scenery was spectacular on what used to be the highest railway in the world. The tracks are being improved...

Re: If You Could Build A Steam Locomotive...

Mark,
I probably have everything someplace, but likely the easiest thing is to just keep hitting the wayback machine.
So much has accumulated during these years!

Re: If You Could Build A Steam Locomotive...

It seems the first post was sometime in August, 1996. How time flies! I honestly could not remember when it went up... If you want a blast from the past, take a peek at the 'wayback' machine: http://web.archive.org/web/19970508110845/http://www.chaski.com/wwwboard/railfan/index.html We were running ...

Norfolk Southern News

"Norfolk Southern opens new $191M route to Midwest"

This is kind of interesting news. After years of hearing about tracks getting ripped up, it is nice to hear about rebuilding.

Did my eyes deceive me? NP units in Rush City MN?

Driving through Rush City MN., (and the rain) I saw what looked like two old 'geeps' painted in Northern Pacific colors.
I believe the were letter for the St. Croix Valley Railroad...and I must admit they were sharp!!

Wish it was not raining so I could get a picture.

Re: It's been awful quiet RE:261

What other engines might you be using?
Who has the Soo Line pacific or that Soo Line 2-8-2 we see from time to time in Minnesota?
Would those work as mainline engines?

Of course you would have to get some maroon and gold equipment! :)
