Re: R.I.P Burlington John

My condolences to Burlington John's family and friends. He left us too soon. :( Today I snapped this picture of a stopped eastbound BNSF freight in Long Lake, MN. The GP39-2 you see, BNSF 2742, was originally built as a Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy GP30, Burlington 947, and even today retains the...

Re: Good Video About Gettysburg RR Boiler Explosion

That is the first I heard of 1278 being a parts source for a sister engine, since the Age of Steam Roundhouse only runs its engines occasionally. 1278 was F. Nelson Blount's pride and joy back when he was alive, and he even renumbered her to "127" and sought to "Americanize" her ...

Re: Stay Bolts are Crucial

261 is going to become an oil burner? Really? Wow. I wonder when Norfolk and Western 611 will be converted to oil.

Re: Good Video About Gettysburg RR Boiler Explosion

Thanks, Kevin, for the clarification re: what kind of incident this was. Good thing CP 1278 had a different kind of boiler setup, otherwise she could have blown sky high with who knows what consequences for steam operations. By the way, here is the full NTSB report on this incident, which the maker ...

Re: "Steamtown’s Grand Opening 25 Years Later"

Great photos, but I'm afraid I was not clear in my question. I meant, what was Steamtown NHS like when you went there in 1995? What did you think of their railroading exhibits? I read mixed reviews about those, so I'm curious what you, as a visitor, thought of those.

Re: "Steamtown’s Grand Opening 25 Years Later"

What is it like at Steamtown NHS, Fitz? I have read a lot about that site, both pro and con, but i have yet to go there myself.

Good Video About Gettysburg RR Boiler Explosion

25 years ago, former Canadian Pacific 4-6-2 1278, then being operated by the Gettysburg Railroad, suffered a boiler explosion. I just watched this good video made to commemorate this unfortunate, but operations-changing, event: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TJPmkcPer8 On a side note, kudos to Mar...

MNNR Local Rolling Through Roseville (MN)

A stretch of ex-Northern Pacific track is now operated by the Minnesota Commercial Railroad. Three times a week, they send a local out along this line bound for customers in Little Canada, White Bear Lake, and Hugo, MN. I caught this local today. Here are the pictures. U.S. Sugar's Steam Engine

U.S. Sugar has a steam engine, an ex-Florida East Coast 4-6-2, and she is now back in steam and recently hauled a freight! :D
