The Indiana Transportation Museum Just Can't Get A Break

The Indiana Transportation Museum sure has had a cursed year (article not behind paywall): http://trn.trains.com/news/news-wire/2018/12/14-monons-first-diesel-decapitated-in-trucking-accident This SW1 was the first diesel the Monon bought. Hurts to see her in such shape if you ask me. Hope they repa...

If Union Pacific is doing this, why can't organizations like the Friends of the 261?

Re: MTM #328 is done

So that is where the train wound up. Thanks, Tom. Speaking of N.P. 328 and trails, John Hill photographed her on the point of an excursion descending Chaska Hill on the former Minneapolis & St. Louis main line in 1984. Today this too is a rail trail. I wish I could have ridden down and up Chaska...

Re: MTM #328 is done

Yes, the rails are up and a trail is in, save for a short stretch by the Stillwater depot, where a former Valley Fair trolley sits awaiting final disposition.

Re: MTM #328 is done

The Stillwater line was donated to MTM by the Burlington Northern back in the 1980s. The line was operated by MTM until early in the 1990s, when NIMBY pressure compelled them to find another place to operate train excursions as so wound up in Osceola, Wisconsin, on the Wisconsin Central. Now that Ca...

Re: MTM #328 is done

I think MTM has no steam simply because Canadian National, which took over steam-friendly Wisconsin Central in 2001, is not know for being hospitable to steam excursions (though once upon time they were).
I remember the 328 at Osceola twenty years ago. She was grand under steam.

Re: The Glorious 261 on September 8, 2018

The train was westbound in both pics, with the real locomotive doing the work and the diesel along for the ride. :) Shame there is no turntable or wye at Glencoe, but oh well.

Re: The Glorious 261 on September 8, 2018

Here is the "Cedar Rapids" and T.C.& W. GP38-2 2015 at Powers Blvd. I was close enough to wave to everybody aboard the train but far enough away to keep safe, the best way to railfan.

The Glorious 261 on September 8, 2018

Here is the glorious 261 westbound at Powers Blvd in Chanhassen about 2:35 P.M. on the lovely afternoon of September 8, 2018. I always wanted to catch a train at this location along the Twin Cities & Western, and the 261 and the "Gourmet Express" was destined to be the one. :D I tried ...

Re: 261 Runs This Weekend

Hey Mark,

That's too bad. I heard about the derailment on another forum. You all were stopped across from Pizza Luce at Blake Road in Hopkins?
