Re: Twin Cities & Western Says "No" To Southwest LRT Deal

And that response caused a response from the county which after having read said response a day or two ago and now no longer clear in my head indicated that the county seems likely to try to start a war in the courts. I don't see where the county has a leg to stand on, but in a very red state (red o...

Re: Twin Cities & Western Says "No" To Southwest LRT Deal

I hope that Hennepin county never gets THEIR sweetheart deal at the expense of TC&W Ry. I suspect it would be bad for not only the Glenco based railroad, but for the Milwaukee Road 261 operation which, with the loss of Amtrak support on major railroads, is the only railroad it can now operate on...

Re: NS sues train crew in Kentucky (March 18th)

Just make sure you realize that not all businesses, large or small, fit that stereotype. But on the same token not all businesses, large or small, are good with their employees. Businesses are like people - they all have their own personalities based on the personalities of management from the lowes...

Re: Opinion: Amtrak's new CEO is unfit

Amtrak has a strong history of inept CEO's who shouldn't have been hired. I suspect there is a bit of cronyism in the hiring of upper end officials. After all, It is tied into the government and that's how government works. I can count on one hand the number of Amtrak presidents who were worth their...

Re: India Pass Train Runaway No Brakes

Ahh, the wonderful life of riding the trains. I have only ridden on a passenger train twice. Once when I was quite young, maybe 10 years old, with my grand parents and my older sister. We left Mpls. on the Zepher to Chicago where we got onto the James Whitcomb Riley to Indianapolis. Same thing in re...

Good one Charles. Looks to me like you've been there, done that. And above all, you are probably most correct.

Re: India Pass Train Runaway No Brakes

Good reasoning John. I agree that it's difficult to discern what really was going on from here. I do think they had to have some sort of hand brake control. Otherwise how do they put trains together or shunt cars here or there? I suppose they can just bang them into other cars and hope the couplers ...

Re: India Pass Train Runaway No Brakes

Ok, strike the comment about Indian people. I agree that it takes a long distance to stop a passenger car that's moving and no air. In this case, they had many miles, which gave someone who might know about it (maybe even a conductor on the train?) would have had time to stop the train after a few m...

Re: NS sues train crew in Kentucky (March 18th)

I don't think the link provided is working. At least it's not working for me. That crew must have been severely negligent. In any case, no train crew is going to have the jing to pay anything close to what they're being asked to pay.

India Pass Train Runaway No Brakes

http://www.foxnews.com/world/2018/04/09/runaway-train-in-india-leaves-passengers-panicking-for-miles-as-ghastly-accident-avoided.html One would think that at least one of all those people aboard would have the sense to walk through the cars and set a mess of hand brakes. Oh, that's right - This is I...

Trains Magazine Fires Don Phillips!

The only part of the magazine that was still interesting was summarily fired yesterday. No reason given. Rumor is that he is too costly. I've noticed that over the past few years the rag has been getting less interesting and shedding pages at the same time. Magazines in general are not doing well in...

Re: Amtrak Is No Longer Allowing Charters And Private Car Moves?

Everybody in the charter and excursion business is working to find a solution that would involve Amtrak, it's new leader and how to make a deal that would be fair to all. Hopefully there will be some sort of agreement before this coming May (I THINK that's the month) when we operate an excursion to ...

Re: Amtrak Is No Longer Allowing Charters And Private Car Moves?

In the past, when we have operated an excursion under Amtrak liability we have paid for any Amtrak equipment and any Amtrak employees. We also paid dearly for the privilege of operating under their umbrella. In our case, they could not possible have lost money. I am pretty sure they made a bit off o...
