Re: Milw 261 heading to Kansas City

Man, am I excited. Mark D called from the train and said they were just outside of Kansas City, and had the Kansas City Southern business train in sight in the yard, two F units and three cars. Tomorrow will make some sort of official arrival to the Union Station with media coverage. I sure wish I c...

Re: Discussion Of History Of ES&NA Railway

Hi Junk Man. I for one have never heard of the ES&NA Railway, and I am an old man. You have said that you are 13. You must have a little more patience with us old folks. Sometimes we forget the things we did when your age. Do you know anything about the P&LE? If so, would you tell me about t...

Hogger 1225, WOW! Dennis is gone?? What are those folks thinking? I saw the ad for the pumpkin trains in R&R, I think. They are not going to run?

Re: Skytop windows today. egad what a mess.

Mark, I thought that was hilarious. I can identify, especially the part about not having all the stuff you thought you would need to do the job. I always forget the most important stuff. I'm sure you didn't think it was hilarious at the time, but it's good to see that you can attach some humor to it...

Re: WOW this forum died, where did every body go?

Let's see, October 9th. Well, the Steam Railroading Institute is running pumpkin trains with the 1225, and Railfan and Railroad mag and Trains mag is full of notices for other events going on. I would guess something's happening at Strasburg, given the author's name as Strasburg fan.

Versatile Steam Hogger

Man, does this man get around, or what? Got his photo last summer running the CP 2816, last fall running the 4449 and again this summer with 4449. Now he's running UP 3985. Go Doyle! :D [/img]

Rick, this isn't going to give you all of the facts, but will give you some of them.

Re: New FRA whistle law - What the Feds say:

Good on you, Rich. I assume you saw that the young mommy was aware of your presence on the tracks. So many aren't, with a cell phone in their ear. You are absolutely right about the "dumbing down" and I am convinced it has been a plot from years ago that is irreversible once in play. So many America...

Re: New FRA whistle law question

:( You guys can pull this, but I thought it was appropriate. I worked in the Flight Test business all my life. I have a test plan for the lawyers making this law. We load them into a real tough car, like maybe a Yugo, if we can find one, and let them attempt to run a grade crossing like most idiots ...

Re: Return Of Steam? Oil Prices

We'll probably all be walking or riding bicycles. There is no more infrastructure left to support huge steam operations, which require vast quantities of water and coal (or oil).

Re: 765 news

I received my copy of "Short Lines" from FWRHS today. Great photos and stories of the details involved in the new smokebox front, running boards, sanders. The photos show closeups of the items in question, but it's a real teaser, as you can tell that the engine is really back together again and just...

Re: Care and feeding of a steam locomotive overnight

Mark, I'm looking forward to the rest of this. Never forgot your "thoughts of a night hostler" thread a few years ago. I can't participate, because I never hostled (unless you want someone to photograph the activity). Can you explain "banking" a fire? I have seen the term used many times and am sure...

Re: 765 news

That's great if they have steamed her up. This was a MAJOR overhaul, I guess a better term would be "rebuild." The crew has rebuilt just about everything on the engine. She should come out of the shop "brand new," like the 844 did. Good job, you guys. :D
