Yes, you are right...it does end in Monticello...track is not in that great
condition.

Still, from an emotional perspective, it would be very interesting!

Re: So is the BNSF putting new track in between Big Lake &am

Mark, I believe that hunk of track was taken out right after the BN/NP/CB&Q merger. Some math jockie calculated they would never need it. I never exactly knew where the track was pulled out...So its west of Big Lake. I think the BNSF is asking 100's of millions to redo signals and sidings.. for ...

DM&E, another thought on how they can get the money

Besides the city of Rochester, It seems some of the problem with getting support for the rebuilding was the DM&E is going to haul coal, which is not politically correct these days. One of the congressmen even said he would support a different plan. So how about this...They get funding to rebuild...

Any news from the DM&E? Or rumors?

I continue to stop in to their website hoping for good news. 'Norm' was kind enough to write me a real note expressing why he had to work against this project. I think he was wrong and his assumption that a rail line would hurt a community is wrong, but at least he wrote. 'Amy' is obviously too busy...

Jackson Street Roundhouse party this past weekend

I visited the Jackson Street Roundhouse of the MTM this weekend.

I have always wanted to visit, but never had a chance. Very nice
place.

An NP steam engine is in the restoration process. Lots of very interesting
equipment to see.

Re: DM&E vs. LIRR funding

Mark, Good point regarding the lt rail. Didn't the state spend close to a billion on the 14 mile light rail line? Wonder why there was no concern about that being able to pay back its loan? I would love to see a train up to Duluth again, but I just can't imagine it working out. Remember the UP, BN, ...

Re: Rivited boilers

Mark,
Hope you don't mind but I cross posted your question to the live
steam board. I thought this would be interesting for people over
there too. Some answers are already there.

Re: DM&E news

I also rather some blather from one of the congressmen from Southern Minnesota. An earlier comment about political correctness of hauling coal didn't seem to be too far from the truth. This congressman didn't like the idea they were going to haul coal and said if they changed their plan, he would su...

Re: DM&E news

Wow, all the politicians were patting themselves on the back about what a good thing it was to hurt this project. This was basically 2 or 3 'stadiums' worth of money, but rather than being a gift, it was to be paid back. Perhaps the cost would not have been so high if it hadn't taken years and years...
