Re: Band Saw Blade Coming Off Pulley
A friend of mine had the 'blade jump off' problem which I corrected by dressing the blade wheels. They had become worn by years of use and the blade would 'track off' the blade wheels. I turned them on my lathe, taking off as little as I could get away with. He never had the problem again.

Re: Moving a lathe in a tight shop
I haven't done this to move a lathe, but to lift heavy work up to my mill table, I will 'jack post' a 4x4 to the floor joists of the upper floor of my shop. When I am satisfied it is secure, I chainfall the load to the mill table height and crank the table under the work. To move my 100 series Claus...

Re: What keeps a train on the track (Feynman)
I remember the story from the 19th century period of the hook crew operated by a guy named Finigan, probably not spell that way. He wrote extensive reports on clean up of derailments he worked. The reports were down to the most minute detail. The RR bosses kept after him to shorten his reports, and ...

Re: Table no Move in X Direction
The bevel gear does have to be shimmed for mesh. And then the dials need to be shimmed for clearence with the housing. I just installed a Knee power feed and had to rob shims from another mill I have. You can make your own shims by stacking shim material between some scrap-bin waste and turning the ...

Re: R-8 end mill holders vs collets
I once worked in a tool room where there were some collets with an insert in the collet which engaged the 'flat' on the mill when installed in the spindle. Naturally it wasn't an R-8 system. I like the Tormach system, myself. It has a special 3/4 R-8 collet and holder combination. The holder 'locate...

Re: Boring Bar 101 - Question
Guy must have been paid by the hour to grind that (assumed) grooving tool! Harold Sometimes you can grind a tool in the time it takes you to locate one in a catalog and have it shipped in! And with lathe bits, cheaper. I don't throw away HHS tools which break as they can reground and used in ...

If you are a 'newbe' and this is your first, just wait till you get some experiance under your belt! Looks good, not too complicated and works like 'store bought'. Keep up the good work.

Re: Shopmade Mill Vise
Great work on the vise! Does it have a 'spherical segment'? Has the 1018 'moved' on you? Now, a highjack question must be asked. Do you find the Monarch stable on the timber? Excelent restoration by the way, looks nearly unused in the pics. I have recently move my Mod 111 Clausing and it is on 2x6 w...
