Many times the boost circuit is 8 or 10 volts which will help turn the car over even if it is not the nominal 12v volts.

Most of the early lathes were plain bearing and for an ultra fine finish they can do a better job. Ball bearings of course wear better over the long run. Of course with the cost of a used lathe so cheap these days I would get a used lathe myself and then make it better. I do live in the northeast wh...

Bigger steppers have more torque but the torque drops off faster with with speed than the smaller motors.. You need to not get into the bigger is better routine with steppers. The nema 423 from keling work well and if you drive them with a G203v which morphs from micro to full steps you get the best...

One more for the Gecko's. I have the G203v on my router and they are fantastic If you don't need the power of the 203 then go with the G540. Giggest bang for the buck IMHO It has 4 3.5 amp at 50v drivers, breakout board and an 10v analog output for driving your vfd or most motor controllers that use...
