Re: Simple, good looking upgrade for your CliShay

If the wheel size is the same as in the book I would recommend that the diameter be increased to 5" which is what I did. Several who built the Clishay have a problem with the chain dragging when it stretches from use. Just my $0.02

Re: CliShay/Big Bertha question

I have added the plug in the top cylinder cover and adding the cylinder cocks. I am using some details from the engine build for the original Clishay.

Also adding the piston rings as per the original design.

Re: Little Engines Wendy?

Not sure who is keeping count of the Wendy's but the Chesapeake & Allegheny in Baltimore has one that runs on occasion.

Re: Another CliShay Build

Thanks Scotty. I would be interested in how the Bertha engineering goes as to reverse linkage.

By the way do you know Larry Kirchner at Maricopa?

Bertha the Steam Engine

I have a few questions as there was no information included on setting up linkage for the reverse, a mechanical lubricator and an eng...

Re: Another CliShay Build

Alterations in design of the Clishay appeared in Modeltec magazine. First was a design for a steel firetube boiler in March 19994 Second was a new engine with larger cylinders and geared 1:1 so it could "run with the big boys" in the June-July 2000 issue. I have a Clishay and the Modeltec issues. H...
