Power Model Supply Duplex Steam Pump Drawings

A friend of mine is looking for a copy of the original drawings for the Power Model Supply Duplex steam pump. The drawings he currently has are not original and it looks like they were made by dismantling one of the pumps and creating a drawing from that. He would really like a copy of the original ...

Etching Brass for Painting

A friend of mine has a brass caboose he wants me to paint. I am going to use self-etching primer but I find that alone isn't always enough to get the paint to adhere well to the brass. He suggested we should etch the brass prior to applying the self-etch primer. What works best for etching brass, ho...

Vinyl vs Waterslide Graphics

I have some 1" scale heavyweight coaches I need to get graphics made up for. In the past, I have always used waterslide decals on all my freight cars. I was wondering if I should think about using vinyl instead and what the various pro's and con's of each are. Which one is easier to apply, look...

Re: Breaking Small Drill Bits

Thanks, everyone for all the great replies. I'm glad I didn't waste the money on the carbide bits before I posted the question here. I will buy some more regular HSS bits but this time I will try them in the Dremel with the flex shaft.

Breaking Small Drill Bits

My friend and I have been putting some grab irons on our 1" scale gondola cars. We have been using some number 51 drills to do this. Despite being very careful and choking right up on the drill bit we managed to break all but one of the drill bits we bought. I think we went through 6 drill bits...

Class Lamps and Smokebox Heat

A friend of mine is planning on adding some working class lamps to his locomotive. He is planning on putting LEDs in them. He is worried about the amount of heat because there attached to the smokebox. Is there something that can be done to help insulate the class lamps from the heat of the smokebox?

Re: reefer kit

I believe you're thinking of John LaFavor. He is doing another run of 1.5" scale wooden reefers. You can find him on Facebook by searching for "Pacific Design Shops" or here is a link to his posts about the car on the Chaski. https://www.chaski.org/homemachinist/viewtopic.php?f=33&...

The Great Model Train Robbery

This video popped up on my Youtube feed the other day. It was posted about 4 days ago. I can't even imagine the feeling these guys felt when engines they had spent years and years building were stolen. Makes me sick to my stomach. This is sort of similar to the thread below about the theft in Seattl...

Jasco Prep & Prime Discontinued

I checked the Jasco website and they have discontinued their Prep and Prime product. I know it was recommended by Jack Bodenmann as a way to prep metal before applying a self-etching primer. I have a brass caboose to paint for a friend. Are there any similar/alternative products to the Jasco Prep an...

Re: Pacific Fruit Express Reefer Kits - 1½" & 1" Scale

WOW! The car looks great! Can't wait to order some. I usually use waterslide decals on my cars but that might be an issue with the grooved siding of the reefers. Not sure how well vinyl graphics would work in this instance either since I have never used Vinyl. When you do the 1" prototype would...
