Since I was going 3 phase with a VFD I didn't bother with the double pulley and just put a single the same size as the most worn AL pulley. It's never been a problem. The motor I bought was an oddball I can't remember the frame size but it was longer and smaller diameter.

I could and would gladly but it wasn't an exact fit and required a me to modify the base plate on the machine. I bought it as a really good deal on ebay.

Re: Hello all, and Jet 1236PS 1236-PS
I converted mine to 3 phase via a vfd and am loving it. with the baldor motor it no longer bounces and the speed stays consistent. Plus the fact that it is variable and I can really get it slow for those coarse thread jobs. Anyone looking for the manual it is posted above beside the green avatar lik...

First let me introduce myself before I ask for advice. My name is Neill. I work as a mechanical engineer for an Oil and Gas products and services company. Cleaning old rules and protractors.
I've acquired some antique tooling in the form of scales protractors etc. All have a hundred or so years of "patina" on them and I have some scales with 30yrs of patina. The stuff I want to use I need to remove the tarnish so I can see the markings better. The stuff I bought because it was...

plainly shows lower C# greater shock resistance higher number greater wear resistance.
So delete away and sensor me!

Wow all that and grammar checking too. Not as much passive aggression in the most resent post.
You are a peach and any forum would be lucky to have you. Thanks for setting me straight!

Re: Turning Keyed Shaft
As I said, you have several things mixed up. C2 is harder than C5 and has less shock resistance (toughness). I'm not interested in debating this issue with you---and if you're too clever to benefit from the knowledge that is widely available for you, that has to be your problem. C2 carbide is NOT s...

Re: Turning Keyed Shaft
So what part do I have wrong that that link clears up? Where does it mention interrupted cuts? I have not said to use C2 normally for steel as steel's propensity to having a continuous chip tends to wear the cobalt binder and carbide away behind the cutting edge and weakening it. As a trade off C2's...

Re: Turning Keyed Shaft
Or I use brazed C2 carbide. Use them in flycutters too. A good choice, but not for steel. It's more likely to chip than a C5 grade. It's very good for aluminum, stainless and cast iron, though. In practice, you'll generally find HSS more forgiving than carbide for interrupted cuts. Harold C2 for in...

Re: Turning Keyed Shaft
I think you answered your own Q. If you use HSS in interrupted cuts go for a grind with lots of meat. Not a surplus of relief, kinda blocky. Or I use brazed C2 carbide. Use them in flycutters too.
