I am considering installation of a 2 axis (X, Y) DRO... if this is not a major task that will require extreme modification to the machine. If there are any machinists that have done this, and you don't mind sharing the det...

Re: CDCO Machinery Corporation

stevec, I'm extremely pleased with those readings, too. I purchased the lathe, new, in early 1978. It has been pampered for years and has seen very little heavy machining operations. The lathe also had many months of inactivity before my retirement. It is much more active now. Most of the projects I...

Re: CDCO Machinery Corporation

stevec, I just measured the spindle run-out on the OD of the shoulder behind the threaded nose and just inside the bore, I got .0003 at both points. Once again, I was using my Starrett 711-D and could not get much farther behind the chamfer of the spindle bore. I repositioned the dial indicator twic...

Re: CDCO Machinery Corporation

stevec, Thanks for the input. When I said , "I need...", maybe I should have said, "hope for". CDCO's claim of .0004 TIR for the chuck may be possible, but I know that the QC of unknown Chinese manufacturers can be hit-and-miss at best. Using a chuck with a machined backing plate can introduce error...
