A new sign from ODF

It's been a while since I have made a new sign, and I had someone request one a few months ago. I ran across a picture of an original I liked on Discover Live Steam, and managed to make a 1/4 scale copy. It came out really nice, in spite of my lack of freehand painting ability. Not sure what road th...

Re: combination engine

Perhaps look at Doble or Stanley steam designs, and run a flash boiler off of your chosen heat source. It would be easier to figure out a double heat source. One major consideration internally in the actual engine (and for those who are more knowledgeable than me, correct me if I'm wrong) is that lu...

Re: Basket case 2-4-0

You could be right, Bill. Searched out some photos and it looks very similar. Not much (read none...) progress to report, hopefully get back to it soon.

Re: Old style passenger trucks

If you look close at my pic, you can see that it's supposed to model that same "pedestal" and "beam" configuration. I have no idea if the pattern I refurbished a bit was of a particular prototype or not. More of a "type", I guess. There isn't much room for it, but I think coil springs could be added...

Old style passenger trucks

Before I cast a bunch of sets of these, I'd like to gauge actual interest. They are a bit labor intensive for such a simple truck, and a fair amount of aluminum as well. The set would include 4 side frames and two bolsters, price would be $150 a set. Also, due to the size, if you want more than 1 se...

Re: A wish list for large scale castings

Hmmm..... I do want to get a few other projects done first, however. And, I seriously need to improve my iron casting qualities. Doable, though. Might take a few years just for the patternmaking.

Re: A wish list for large scale castings

Wow, yeah, that would be cool if the original patterns still existed. If nothing else they could serve as templates to make new patterns to use. Most of those look doable Glenn, guess I've got to step up my game. Here's the thing, even I would have to charge quite a bit for that casting set. How man...
