Snowmobile Lower Control Arms Any Takers?

I'm just putting this out there as I've seen on a Ski-doo (the brand , not the generic use of the word) forum where guys are having a difficult time sourcing a couple of parts from an aftermarket kit that was offered in the 80s & 90s: https://www.dootalk.com/cdn-cgi/image/format=auto,onerror=red...

Parting/Grooving Inserts Question

Since I set up my shop, I've been using a Kennametal DSB 4340105 holder w/ GSP inserts. Well I'm down to my last GSP125N insert & today I contacted the distributor that I had last purchased inserts from. According to them, that style of insert has been discontinued. When I asked if there was a s...

Re: ISO Plastics Supplier Ontario Canada

I missed the post! Thanks Pete. I've had good success buying from Lairds but these days I get it from a friend in the industry out of Kitchener as scrape, all kinds of colours and sizes and all rounds....I can ask him if he'll help you if you are interested. Thank you! I see they have a location in...

ISO Plastics Supplier Ontario Canada

Any Canadians out there that know of a supplier in Ontario that sells 'plastic' specifically rounds and in colours other than black? I thought I had a local source but it turned out to be a dead end.

TIA

Re: Materials Question

(my hammers are 1" dia'). They make a 1" hammer with the replaceable tips, too, with a soft red rubber tip being available. I have one in my shop, with a green tip on one end and the red tip on the other. The green tip is somewhat harder, but neither of them damage steel components. I'd r...

Re: Materials Question

I'm a fan of Nuplaflex hammers. They offer a huge variety of tips, and are reasonably priced. Just sayin' H I checked their webpage and they're a bit big for my use 1.25" (my hammers are 1" dia'). I'd rather not have to deal w/ a vendor for them. Takes me about 15 minutes @ little cost to...

Re: Materials Question

I'm amazed nylon works at all in this application, as it is hygroscopic, an undesirable characteristic in a material that has to function around water (i.e., snow) in subfreezing temperatures. :D Delrin (which is not a "plastic") might work out. Black Delrin seems to be fairly tough and u...

Materials Question

I've been using some hammer faces (that are described hard white nylon) on some specialty hammers. A couple of users have reported that the nylon isn't standing up to their use, (chipping ice and snow from snowmobile track suspensions). It's not the ice, that's causing the damage but the edges on th...

Lufkin #513 Depth Mic

I've had a Lufkin depth mic that I bought from a journeyman that was decluttering back in the 80s. It had been his father's. It has a patent date of Jan' 5, 1926 (Ironically I started my apprentice ship on Jan' 5, 1981). Just curious as to how long Lufkin made the #513 mic.
