Looking for someone near San Jose CA: Milling job

Hey Guys,

I'm converting a Grizzly G0704 mill to CNC and I want to add oil grooves to the sliding surfaces. I'm looking for someone that can do the milling for me since I am in between machines at the moment.

Please PM or email me if you are interested.

Thanks,

Chris

Get them up high enough that you can operate the handwheels with your arms bet at a 90. You want to be able to stand there for hours and not be stooped over. I think the stand I made for my Mill/Drill puts the vice at about 44 inches. It was a huge improvement over the stock sheetmetal stand. I'll c...

Run, don't walk, to the Practical Machiinist forums. Ask this question there. Do a search on moving machines and look for answers from Forrest Addy and D. Thomas. Forrest has a ton of experience moving machinery. D is a machine tool dealer and moves machines on a regular basis. Do not risk tipping i...

First thing I would do is see if there are any HSM or pro shops in your area. Start asking around. Second, I see alot of decent machines on Practical Machinist. Start asking there. I'd get a Bridgeport or similar, a decent 12"+ lathe, compressor, etc. You really need to have an idea of WHAT you're g...

John,

I'm glad that the inserts fixed your finish problems. I don't remember my finishes being too terrible, but I always had problems with stringy chips.

John,

Great! Let us know how it goes. Like I said, I still have trouble getting chips instead of strings, but my finishes are pretty nice with those inserts.

Try using a High Positive inset like the one I'm linking to: http://www.carbidedepot.com/detail.aspx?ID=17647 I called Carbide Depot and talked to the techs and explain my problems. This is the insert they recommended to me. Run your lathe at top speed unless your turning parts over say 2-3 inches i...

Re: Millrite/Burke/Powermatic parts source

Barry,

New parts are available from DC Morrison. They are on the web.

There is a Yahoo group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BurkeMills

There is plent of info on that group.

I just got my Powermatic MVN running yesterday. I can't wait to cut some chips.

Re: Need Advice on Oil/Grease Gun for Millrite

Hey Tom,

There's an article on metalworking.com on how to convert a grease gun into an oil gun.

Haven't done it myself, but I'd like to.

Mike,

Check out the 12x lathe group on Yahoo. They can give you all the dirt on those lathes.

Re: Edge Finder,

Andy,

Are you saying that to start the end is off center? I've never really understood how these things are supposed to work. Of course, I got a cheap one thrown in when I bought my machine, that could be part of my problem too.

Any help would be appreciated,

Chris
