Re: OT: Building in isolated location

Sounds like good advice!

And I'll extend Seal Killer's wish for continued good health -- I'm 64, albeit in excellent health, so I fall into the "high risk" category.

I'm well stocked with food (though I have 'only' 8 rolls of TP! ), so I expect to weather this storm.

Re: O. Winston Link

Love his work, and highly recommend a visit to the museum. His books are good, I have two, but seeing real prints puts a whole different perspective on the photos.

Re: OT: Building in isolated location

Congratulations, Bill. It's been a long road and thanks for sharing the journey!

Good luck with the move; I'm sure you're looking forward to getting everything in place.

And you're welcome for any comments I made that you found helpful. It's partly why we're all here.

Re: OT: Building in isolated location

I think you want to not only strap things down, but to strap them side to side, to prevent tipping on curves. Both should be possible on the lathe using the bed as the strapping point. With the lathe, I would also give serious thought to removing: The chuck. The tailstock. The carriage. As that will...

i think part of my problem is carpel tunnel related. I've been told that can be addressed by surgery.
Definitely. I have a number of friends who have had successful CT surgery.

Best wishes with that, Harold.

Re: Good price for 1144 round at Fastenal

My experience has been, with "small" orders, if I can pay cash, I just give them my employer's name. That "we" have nothing to do with 'conventional industry/manufacturing" has never been questioned. While there may be a host of reasons why they won't/can't sell to 'walk in' customers, their bottom ...

Correct, Tractor Supply. I suspect Rural King would have similar equipment.

Re: OT: Building in isolated location

When I moved my LeBlond, I broke it down. The bed was bolted to the legs with 8 bolts, and the only other connection was the belts. That left the chip tray and the two leg castings. It made it much easier to handle and I didn't need to worry about it being top heavy and tipping over in the truck. I ...

Thanks, Harold. That did occur to me, but 'you never can tell...'

Best wishes in your efforts to liquify metal! Sure wish I weren't half a continent away!
