Re: I'd appreciate some help designing an air gauging appara
Sizing so far is not producing better results. Being able to measure the head without contact is important since the lead is difficult to measure without distorting. I only need to measure the head, not the skirt. I realize an air gauge will measure area and not diameter and that is fine. All I want...

I'd appreciate some help designing an air gauging apparatus
Here is what I need to do. I need to measure the head size of soft lead air gun pellets. http://www.danbrownphotography.com/galleries/albums/userpics/_DPB7574.jpg My idea is make a die that will fit into my RCBS reloading press. I will then make a shell holder that I can sit the pellet on in a cente...

Re: Value of old Flather and Son lathe
Thanks all. It does have the spindle. I have it listed for $300 and will take $200. If it doesn't sell I will take it on a trip to the scrap yard. Dan Its age and lack of threading capability make it less valuable as a general purpose lathe. Of course it has some value as an antique but antique lath...

Value of old Flather and Son lathe
My dad would like to liquidate his old F&S lathe. The ways are in good shape. It has a face plate, beat up 4 jaw chuck, steady rest. Could I get an idea of what to ask on craigs list? Should I expect the going scrap rate? Thanks, Dan http://www.danbrownphotography.com/galleries/albums/userpics/C...

Re: Coefficient of friction plastics
Thanks for the help everyone. This is for a hammer in an air rifle. I've made many and used abs plastic. I just made one for a new rifle model. The surface area of the brake is much reduced and I think it will work better if I could find a stickier material. I can change the geometry of the parts to...

Coefficient of friction plastics
Howdy all. I'm looking for a table that lists the coefficient of friction of numerous plastics. I'm designing a part that slides in an anodized aluminum bore. It has a plastic brake that expands in the bore slowing the part's rebound off a spring. The plastic would need good wear resistance as well ...

Re: Custom barrel manufacturers in the US
I'm interested in buying 10 barrels to start. 1:36" twist, taper lapped to my bore a groove dimensions. It seems some makers can't twist slow enough or can't taper lap such a small bore. Dan Shilen Bartlein Lilja Benchmark Brux Rock Creek Pac-Nor Lothar Kreiger Douglas Feddersen Spencer Green M...

Custom barrel manufacturers in the US
Howdy all. I've been in search of a barrel maker that will undertake a .177 barrel project of mine. I'm not having any luck. Here is a list of the makers that I've tried so far. Acceptable collet runout
Howdy all. I just set up my old Jet lathe to accept 5c collets. The best I can do is about .0006" run out. Is this an acceptable amount or should I look for a higher quality adapter?
Thanks,
Dan
