and use .032 SS in a brass tube (guide)
This is a pro tip I have to try. I've never been very successful holding the end of small diameter ss to the joint.

One question, what are “Horn triggers”? I assume some sort of momentary push button switch assembly??
Yes, momentary pushbutton for the horn and a spst on/off switch for the bell.

Re: Sound card recommendation

Phoenix P8 is one. It has bell and horn triggers, and also uses the voltage off the motor circuit to adjust the sound for the load. Its sound library isn't as large as some of the other manufacturers and you can't mix and match engines and horns, the engine and horn are combined in the sound file fr...

There was an earlier thread where it seemed like the Viair compressor was recommended by many: https://www.chaski.org/homemachinist/vi ... 8&t=108136.

If I'm able to press the wheel on by hand is that the fit I want to use with loctite? Retaining compound manufacturers specify a fit for each product they sell. For example, for Loctite 638 it is 0.25 mm and for 648 it is 0.15 mm. You can go here for 638, then hit the Information tab: https://www.h...

Re: Suppliers of 1" Rolling Stock

It's a good question. Pacific Design Shops has done a PFE reefer recently and I understand has plans for other products: http://pacificdesignshops.com/ Despatch Railroad has also done flat and hopper kits as batches: https://www.despatchrailroad.com/portfolio/ One Inch Railroad has the old Nelson Gr...

It'll be a nice loco Anthony, hope you can keep time allocated to it. Jesse Krebs has one (not USRA though) which has always looked and run well at our club. In 1" scale it's a nice size, it pulls a decent train but still easy to transport:

What do the drawings call for? My expectation would be it would be a bare whisper, like 0.001" or less. I would not press them with your mill. Your quill is not designed for that kind of force in that direction, while a press is. It might be worth taking to an automotive machine shop if you do not h...

When you look at a drawing from 100 years ago you quickly have a lot of respect for the draftsman that made it. I can't imagine getting down to the last line and having the pen blurp ink onto the velum.
Or equally bad, have an engineer stroll in with "sorry old chap, but we have a revision".

Re: 3/4" Raritan 2-4-0 build.

If you ask here how to turn wheels, 10 guys will tell you at least 12 ways to do it. Dave Sclavi has a good set of YouTube videos, the first one is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4_ro19aQZg One thing to think about is how you are going to keep your axle bore perpendicular to your wheel face....

Re: 1.6" Kerosene Headlight Build"

Your vent has a lot more going on than my example. Here, they just bent a sheet over the vent, the sheet being very similar to the outer one but at a 90 degree angle. My example was probably later, and this was a cost-cutting approach deemed 'good enough'.
