Fantastic Adam, don't paint it. Just kidding, you have to, but it really shows your craftsmanship in its raw state.

Greg Lewis did some measurements he documented in this thread of the external smokebox and stack temps:

Permatex 80335 Muffler and Tailpipe Sealer is a sodium silicate paste that might work too, and easy to find.

Edit: corrected the part number, thanks.

Geez, all these filters on top, maybe they installed my engine upside down? It's older though, 2009.

Re: The $460.19 oil change.....

If I had opened the hood I could have solved the problem probably by just tightening down the oil filter plus the price of a spray can of EngineBright. Probably not. The Subaru flat 4 oil filter mounts upside down on the bottom of the engine, you have to reach up from below between two exhaust pipe...

Re: How to get started?

I don't know if a maker space would work for access to machine tools for the time being, someplace like Make Salt Lake? https://www.makesaltlake.org/ Honestly, those environments are tough because you usually have a limited time slot and have to leave the space as you found it, so between setup and ...

Very scale! My drawings have the prototype bottom two panels made from 1/4" plate and the top from 3/16", so 22 ga at 0.029" is within a thou or two of the bottom panels.

Here's a photo of an appropriate car.

Edit: I should note this is a double-sheathed USRA box and Tim's poling pockets are correct for a single-sheathed car, they're slightly different. Brake wheel is the same though!

Re: USRA SS Boxcar in 1/8 Scale

I thought similarly, it's unfortunate all of the three pieces are unique but it's going to be easier to press the corrugations that way. Are you thinking one die with all 5 corrugations or a die with a single corrugation and some kind of registration to get them spaced correctly? I haven't looked at...

Tim, very interesting project! I've off and on been working on drawing a 5/5/5 corrugated end in Fusion360 but haven't gotten very far.

Re: Requesting assistance for board issues

As followup, I switched my settings on the phone and saved a series of photos using the jpeg format. File sized jumped from the 2.8 MB Apple format to 4.8MB for legacy jpegs for each photo. Almost a 100% increase in file size. So far as I can tell, the three aspect ratios programmmed into the Apple...
