Hello Russ N.
Yes, I built the L.E. Pacific and the Winton Mogul. Took me 30 years on the Pacific - Life got in the way... Didn't fabricate and weld either of the boilers though. That's Marty's job....Smile!

Re: Actual Liquid Propane Burner System
Hello folks, Thank you ALL for your continuing input. I think that we are at the point where I know what I will do now. I'll just need to develop BTU requirements and size the rosebud system accordingly. I've got two great suppliers (LocoParts and Bengie) that I can choose from, so who could ask for...

Re: Actual Liquid Propane Burner System
Hello Bill, Yes, to all of your comments above. I have LcooParts burners on my Pacific with a baffle installed as you describe above. Interestingly enough, my Winton Mogul uses Jeff's manifold and burners without a baffle plate. However, I only have 15 burners on that locomotive. Seems to run just f...

Re: Actual Liquid Propane Burner System
Hello Carl, Thank you for your input. I am leaning towards a vaporized burner design. After measuring the Chloe frame and rear tender deck, it appears that slotted tube burners, with requisite mixing tube provisions, will not fit underneath the Chole frame. This is due to the rear truck mounting sys...

Re: Actual Liquid Propane Burner System
Hi Folks (Bill S. and Bob D.) Ok, so unless someone (soon) tells me they have exact knowledge of my single burner liquid system, I'm going to pivot to a "standard" slotted tube or rosebud design with vaporized propane at the 0-5 psi range. I can run my Pacific on less than 3 psi, so the Ch...

Re: Actual Liquid Propane Burner System
Hi folks, Well, once again Mr. Shields has put his finger on the issue with the tank and regulator output. I do have a fork truck tank that came with the burner system. It has a fitting on it that does NOT match the QCC fittings on my Pacific's vaporized rosebud burner system that uses BBQ tanks and...

Re: Actual Liquid Propane Burner System
To NP317: I'm in Tempe, AZ and am a member of Maricopa Live Steamers To Bob D: I think that you may be leading me in the right direction. Fork trucks use liquid propane up to the engine. and there must be a regulator on that system. You have pointed me to that web page with the regulator which is cl...

Re: Actual Liquid Propane Burner System
Hello Mr. Shields, I'm not particularly cell phone savvy, so I'll see if I can find a way to provide a picture of the burner system. I am hoping from my description that someone who has experience with such a system will recognize my description and be able to offer help. Thank you personally for yo...

Re: Actual Liquid Propane Burner System
Hello Folks, Thank you all for your input to date. The burner system I have utilizes one 7/8" dia. tube, 6" long. It's slotted only on the bottom firing down into a refractive coating in a sealed "pan". There is no secondary air provided. My query is: what regulator do I need for...

Re: Actual Liquid Propane Burner System
Hi Folks, Well, Thank You all for the input. So far though, I don't see a specific set of recommendations coming forth at this time. I'll wait to see if someone reads my query who may have more specific knowledge of what I've got. I won't scarp anything yet, but I'm going to have to make a decision ...

Re: Actual Liquid Propane Burner System
Hi folks, Thank you for all your input. Mr. Shields, you have a good observation regarding the liquid flow to the burner. What I was told by the original owner/builder, was that the propane tank does not freeze up when you put liquid through the lines up to the burner. That's why he chose this syste...

Actual Liquid Propane Burner System
Hi Folks, Our club was donated a partially completed Chloe. I offered to finish the locomotive, and discovered that instead of the normal rosebud type of vaporized gas burner, I had a liquid burner. That is to say, the system was to use liquid propane right up the the expansion chamber on a single t...
