Re: Injector question

Hello Göran,
Don't worry! That's not an issue due to the energy needed to compress and feed the air into the boiler.
Look, even any minor :( leakage (of air) within the water supply from the tender will break delivery of the injector.

NP317, Seems to be a proper choice! Using this sort of DupliColor silikcon based spray paint for my first painting job, too. :) Burning the smaller parts inside a pizza oven after being spray painted worked out fine. Proper cleaning by means of acetone as last finish is necessary of course! :!: Aste...

Re: Super heated Steam Throttle Lag

Dave, Looks excellent, well done! I'm using this method of welding the SH return ends, too some 40 years now with best results :) But I don't recommend enlargeing the back ends into the firebox due to the risk of overheating! Please think about of firing by means of the blower at standstill. One can...

Re: Long Henry-Tribute on a Train

Hello steamers, First thanks to Chris for your fine video! This event was the reason to bring back to life (and paint :P ) my old DB class 44 fuel (043) during the last months. That old friend of mine, builder of that strong going 44 1263, celebrated and enjoyed his 80th birthday this way! Thu...

Re: Are dynamos too noisy?

Wolfgang, Look, here is the solution - done: (Took me some time to gather and adept the old fotos and drawings). The prototype has an extension combined with the wheel which holds two piston rings. These slip into the bore of the housing and will move slightly until they aren't in touch with the hub...

Hello Greg_Lewis,
Is this you want to hear?
Working brushless turbo generator, scale 1 in 10 (about of 1 " diameter). About 5 to 10 W output with just a teeth wheel as turbine.

Hello NP317, Great work with your Heisler! There is on more severe advantage using stainless steel for the jacketing: Thermal losses by radiation will be reduced a great deal due to the reflecting inner side of the jacket  Experience with both my locos which are equipped with boilers and jacke...

Re: A Real Dirty Job

Hello friends, Watching the atempt to refurbish an old and worn piece of locomotive with interest. I did a similar job during the last months. The only difference is, this locomotiive is well known to me for I built it myself some 30 years ago  For I didn't like the painting process  (and...

Hello gregoryc, What do you think about the good old Train Simulator? Maybe this will be only working with ancient WIN 2000 or Expert on your labtop yet? Years ago I checked out, if the calculations used with this programme were true regarding the real thing. Found out that both drawbar power and -f...

Re: Steam Turbine Question

Hello Phil, RET, Just let me add some photos to show how a simple construction will do, too. Using a standard gear wheel (made of aluminium, if you can get) will work just fine  . The steam is directed tangential along the wheel and is exausted after about 90°towards the generous exaust. Force...
