Re: Blue prints SD
ALCOSTEAM,
The HO brass model I found was made by Overland Models (OMI 6613.1 UP SD90).
My point was that the manufacturer MIGHT still have prints for these model locomotives archived. I had good luck with Athearn when I asked for prints many years ago.

Re: Blue prints SD
Think "outside the box" for a minute. Brass models in ANY scale are almost always more accurate than plastic models. I just did a quick search and found a HO scale ALL BRASS model of a SD90. Sold for $695. Made by KATO in Korea in 1997, so it isn't a new prototype by any stretch of the ima...

Re: Crank Pin Material
When I built my Gene Allen ten wheeler and I needed to make the crank pins, I went "outside of the box". Because I was a die sinker by trade and made forging die cavities, I was familiar with various die steels. The nice thing about using die steel is that once it is machined, it doesn't r...

Re: Accucraft RGS Goose #6
Art, My son and daughter-in-law purchased one of these awesome models for me this past May (as a gift). First thing I did was machine some aluminum footpads for it. Accucraft?Maxitrak actually provides the mounting stems for the footpads. Make your own design to be able to use these to mount the peg...

Re: Question for the No-DRO Crowd
Do this exactly like Harold mentioned early on in this thread. An old fashioned wax tip, colored grease pencil like the grocer used 50-60 years ago, to mark prices on a can. Cut two sides first. One long side and one short side. These are your "match edges". Record the dial readings on the...

Re: One piece at a time
Hey Garrett, IF you worked in the machine trades and you used a 3/16 end mill to cut that bolster, you would probably be "fired" JUST before lunch :). It's a joke son, it's a joke :). Seriously, CNC milling and manual milling are both similar in how the cutters are chosen to do a job. Firs...
