Re: the carousel

The Circle Game Joni Mitchell Yesterday a child came out to wonder Caught a dragonfly inside a jar Fearful when the sky was full of thunder And tearful at the falling of a star And the seasons they go round and round And the painted ponies go up and down We're captive on the carousel of time We can'...

Re: Indicator repair

According to their website, Long Island Indicator does NOT do any repairs on Starrett products. Copied and pasted: We don't carry spare parts or we just have a dislike for some of these brands, so please do not send the following: Starrett gages of any kind (we are not authorized distributors for St...

Re: Brown and Sharpe Micrometer Information

Re: drill bit helix

From Viking Drill and Tool's website: Helix Angle (Spiral Angle) An essential feature of a twist drill is the helix angle (spiral angle). It determines the process of chip formation. Larger helix angles provide effective removal of soft, long-chipping materials. The high helix brings the stringy chi...

Re: CMM granite surface plate grade ?

I don't believe granite CMM tables have the same flatness / repeatability requirements as a true surface plate. In my experience, the CMM tables are NOT used as a datum reference, since the CMM software creates the datums on the part being measured. The granite is used typically for stability. I hav...

I believe (on other another forum) an appropriate response would "You suck!" In other words, "Great find!" Diligence and patience pays off. :)

Re: Craftsman Micrometers

I would be happy to claim Peter Marks as a relative, but I cannot. He, however, may feel otherwise. :) I have never met him in person, but we have communicated a few times through another forum.

Re: Craftsman Micrometers

Peter Marks compiled an informational book about micrometers and their makers. The information was for his micrometer collection he was selling to start a scholarship program. (My apologies, Pete. My 2-sentence description of your work does not do it justice!) His book is an incredible reference sou...

Re: Gage Block Care & Feeding

From an article in Quality Digest... Care of Gage Blocks http://www.qualitydigest.com/may97/html/gguide.html by Drew Koppelmann Cleanliness is critical. Gage blocks must be stored clean and must be recleaned immediately prior to use. Gage blocks -- those apparently simple little chunks of steel that...
