Re: I want to make new lathe feed dials

Make a strip of material which wraps exactly around your dial.
Then mark it out -

Re: Bits Spin in Hand Drills

Never had the problem, up to 13.5mm drills.
What are you using?
If it's a key-less are you tightening with no drill once in a while to centre it properly?
You're not using cheap stuff are you? ;-)

Re: Deburring

For non-grabby deburring I have Noga, drill bit with the edge stoned, woodworking countersinks for screwdrivers, proper HSS countersinks, and a nice countersinking and chamfering milling tool from Daishowa, the name of which escapes me ;-)

(EDIT - Daishowa Center Boy, I made my own holder)

I'd use the "Rack" cutter from the gear cutter set.

Re: Buying drill bits

Because I work mainly in metric I bought 3 sets of Jobber drills with 0.5mm increments from 1mm to 13mm plus common tapping sizes (one for each mill and one for the lathe), a set from 1mm to 6mm in 0.1mm increments, a set from 6mm to 10mm in 0.1mm increments and then a set from 1/16 to 1/14 in 1/32 ...

Thanks for Sharing!
It's a shame the manufacturer's solution wasn't adequate, my 1982 Rong Fu 400 DVM Mill Drill gives a nice smooth 250rpm to 3000rpm using a variable belt drive system.

Re: In praise of my Tangential Tool Holder....

I think in some alloys the issue may be that if you run fast enough for carbide you need ceramic and that slowing down to feeds and speeds for HSS will work for some of those problem alloys. I always keep some HSS blanks in the drawer, I find tangential holders somewhat limiting as little of what I ...

Re: Bed protector.

I tried something like that with glass reinforced Teflon sheet (think heavy duty baking sheet) and bits from a roller blind but when the dirty side rolls up it transferred chips and dirt to the clean side, I tried to to come up with a double system with an extra roller in the gap where the dirty sid...

Re: How to indelibly mark plastic oil bottles?

How about using a stencil and fine media blasting to roughen the surface enough to read the text? it shouldn't weaken the bottle appreciably and legibility should improve with use as the grime beds in ;-) Alternatively if you can find a really old Dymo label machine like mine you can use stainless t...
