Re: LinuxCNC making sense of it all?

Re: Nitrosteel for piston rod?
yes good stuff, but its more of a teatment then a coating per say, much like an impregenation or blueing effect. My expsoure to the stuff has only been on pre machined parts that requried the coating. I cant say that welding will readly help or hurt a pre coated rod. nitrotec treater web site It is ...

How long did it take you to build the mold you cast that part in, all those intricate shapes and angles must have been taxing.

Re: Red oil in Barber-Coleman actuator
at a guess it could be type-f transmision fluid, that stuff has the red dye, a few others like the 3in1 do as well, but they are very aromatic.
my guess is a trany fluid of some sort.
phil
however 2 of the 5 voices in my head are not sure.

ideas about a rpm meeter or position dohickie
I was checking out some perl modules to see if I could find some way to make some sort of interface by which a signal can enter the computer, be counted and then some math to give a rpm of anything. the expansions of this are just about limitless including DROs. If I can manage to get a bench cleane...

As the south bend project keeps yelling at me to finish the gearing issue comes to mind, so Ive read and calculated and still only understand about 1/3 of it all. ...

Indicate the part in at the chuck move the steady close as possiable to the chuck set the steady rest there to support the part, move the steady to working position and have a go at it. bearing supports are the best way to go, I hate the brass pad way. at work, I use that method for a lot of the stu...

Re: begin surface grinder questions
Hopefully it will come with at least one wheel arbor. they have the taper in them to match the spindle nub. and I think are held in place with a left hand screw. as far as grit wheels go like stated earlier a good large grain wheel will or should serve you better then a fine wheel which can and will...
