These work really well BUT you can kinda consider your bar as being a consumable. We never broke an insert without damaging the blade this was in a commercial shop with CNC lathes.
I don't know if I could afford to use them for hobby use.

Re: Basic question on mill part setup - part origin
What little I know about CNC milling tells me it's all at the preference of the programmer who often is not the guy at the machine. In my opinion the programmer must include a accurate and complete set up sheet. makes it much easier if you have more than one guy running the job. If it were me I'd us...

Re: Micrometers/Calipers/Height Gauges
I use Mit. and B&S nothing feels as good as my swiss made 0-1 mic mine was $15 used. I would suggest the friction thimbles. Also buy a cheap caliper and 0-1 mic use them for rough stuff or if someone wants to borrow. Saves your good for good. You may want look at Fowler for seldom used items the...

Re: Panhead rebuild project...
You can verify lower end knock by tightening the primary chain way hard like tapping the trans. back with a 2 x 4 and hammer. It takes excess play out and quiets the motor, obviously not a solution but it will show the problem. You'd be surprised how many old bikes used to be sold like this. Chances...

Re: Loctite on Screws That Hold Headstock Lid On?
I'd suggest male female studs as well next time if you heat the screw area up it will help to break the bond. Maybe someone else had the top off and said I'll use this. If any blue or 242 would be better.

Re: How to measure with an inside micrometer
It does take practice, I kinda rotate one end (the small end with an extension rod) in ever smaller circles finally I rotate the mic in the direction it lengthens and if it's not centered at some point it will try to fall out. If it's on axis it will rotate. At least that's how checked a recess for ...

Re: Tapping questions - power and taper
Another thought if possible use a thread forming tap you'll wonder how they make such great threads and they don't make chips, drill size is different and they won't work in hard materials, I think they are a little tougher than cut taps though.
Another plus of a head they tap straight.
