Re: Did I buy a milling machine or a mistake?

I would expect there is a spindle lock lever accessible from the operator's normal position.
Otherwise you could not get the R8 collets unscrewed.

Re: tractor engine top end rebuild

I have followed your top end rebuild with interest. Working on an air cooled engine is different. The Hood River (Oregon, USA) Museum I volunteer at has several Franklin automobiles with vertical 4-cylinder forced-air cooled engines. They all operate and provide rides for visitors. And now I have an...

Re: 2 1/2" scale 4-6-0 build

Isn’t that the other way around, Russ? I don’t think I’ve ever seen a slide valve engine with the outside steam pipes from smokebox to the top of the valves. There were a few inside admission K27’s without the outside steam pipes. Very strange looking. Oh Duh! Thanks. I have corrected one word to M...

Re: 2 1/2" scale 4-6-0 build

Ah! Ok, not used to seeing them in that location as most come thru the smoke box from out side the saddle on an angle. Steam delivery lines for slide valve cylinders are usually as shown in djh87's photo above of the smokebox, due to being outside admission. Piston valve cylinders usually have exte...

I suggest so.
And be sure to slightly taper the ends of the bearings themselves, so they do not wipe the oil off the guide bars as they move.
It will then "cam" the oil between the surfaces, giving better lubrication.

Re: Railroad Warehouse 2.8.2 Mikado Logger Build

Hmmm...
I made mine with very little "slop" when cold. They have not yet seized up when running.
But I don't have any specific numbers to give you. It was all by feel.
