Re: New Controller?

Yes Mesa cards and Linux cnc is what I think I may do. Masso is another option a more integrated setup like the acorn but cheaper I think.

Re: What is this CAT40 tool?

I would think an endmill holder with an OD that large would have a fairly large hole for the endmill. Certainly bigger than the 1/2" slot. Maybe it could be shop made. Something that didn’t work or got repurposed. It just holds a lot of resemblance to an endmill holder and I don’t see what els...

Re: What is this CAT40 tool?

Not that I know much about 40 taper tooling, but I suspect that wasn't made from an end mill holder. The set screws are in the incorrect orientation and spaced too widely for any end mill holder. Unfortunately I've never seen a tool holder like it. The horizontal set screws make the fly cutter gues...

I have a nmtb 40 with no drive lugs. My mill also has no drive keys.

Re: What is this CAT40 tool?

Looks to me like a nmtb 40 or nt 40 definitely not cat 40.

But the big hole is just there because someone made that flycutter holder from a regular endmill holder it seems. They are cheap and you could easily make a rigid flycutter from it.

Re: Why not to Buy Cheap Jet CNC Mill?

I said earlier I do own one? And a real VMC Well if you own a VMC then that explains why everything else would be less than acceptable to you. Most of us of the "HOME MACHINIST" variety machinist either don't have the room, power supply or funds to own such a machine. But back to Steve's ...

Re: Why not to Buy Cheap Jet CNC Mill?

While they are very versatile manual machines and I think a well equipped shop should have one they just aren’t good for cnc. Really, says they guy who probably does not own one! 0522181311 (2).jpg They have their draw backs but "IF" you know how to approach them they can produce v...

Re: Why not to Buy Cheap Jet CNC Mill?

I didn't say I converted a Grizzly. I was talking about the things people who convert them say. They have all sorts of problems. It sounds like a CNC knee mill is a really bad idea! Yea I honestly think a cnc knee mill is the worst of the three. It’s just trying to be something it’s not. While they...

Why not to Buy Cheap Jet CNC Mill?

I'm not spending $55K unless I get diagnosed with a brain tumor. Haas makes a very small mill for under $30K. My understanding is that it's very stripped down, but I don't know too much about it. How satisfied are you with the knee mill? My guess: not very, since you bought a Fadal. I didn’t say yo...

Why not to Buy Cheap Jet CNC Mill?

At least one I have is show me a knee mill with an atc. But a lot of people grab the tormach I think because it can be moved with a engine hoist (good luck moveing a Bridgeport with one) and they are faster as well as upgradable as you go. So they start at about 20k then you can add a power drawbar ...
