I have seen people modify acorn nuts for stay bolt heads, but making them yourself is more fun. Are the gray arms on the back head for grate shakers? Keep up the great work and stay safe.

There are illustrations of this type of valve in the locomotive encyclopedia. Thanks for making them easier to help me understand how to make them.

I have those type of locking washers in my Bridgeport. Try looking up H&W machine repair I know they have them, but don’t know what size they are.

I use a couple of hose clamps, keep one tight and the other one loose. Slide the loose one until it touches the tight one and tighten, loosen the other hose clamp and move to feed out stock.

There is an article on discoverlivesteam.com from Adam Madlinger titled “A riveting article” that explains a lot about rivets and how to set them. Adam made an outstanding riveted oil tank car.

You can make rectangular slots with a shaper attachment on a Bridgeport with a square tool bit or a square file on a filing machine starting out in a hole.
