Re: Making a Sharps rifle on my lathe
I haven't finished my Sharps yet, having too much other work to do. But it'd only take a couple weeks effort to finish it, very close to complete. Very good to see somebody else build a rifle from barstock and chose to build a tough one at that. . Never would I make a breechblock before cutting the ...

Re: Making a chamber reamer
homebrew .357 It's been 17 weeks since I began my Sharps and I have an exceptionally well equipped shop and have all day everyday to work on it. Its a big project. I regret that you wont be building the rifle but I respect your decision.. It is better to decide against starting than to get deep into...

Re: Making a chamber reamer
I payed $120 for the plans and the wife says you better build that gun !! or you will get the  , so I`v got to get on with it, The thing with a cartridge gun is that you can look down the barrel bore, so it will need to be good, very good , Cheers Guys , I`v lots to do, Homebr...

Re: That lathe made barrel
Homebrew .357 That rifling attachment to your lathe looks impressive.. Bet It is mighty satisfying using your own built project to build another home brewed project...I could enjoy that too. I was back to reading about barrel making this week out of frustration of not yet getting the barrel I've had...

Re: That lathe made barrel
for now i buy barrels when i find them. and hope to find time for projects The fellow running the match was telling me about a muzzleloading match farther north in this state.. I just now sent him an email asking him to describe the 'best' gun for that match as maybe I'll build one to go shoot the ...

Re: That lathe made barrel
the black eye is always a hint. alapa i figured by now you would be turning out barrels for your builds. homebrew how are you creating the pitch of the rifleing. Hammermill, I do often think about rifling barrels but never done any of it. .....I shot the match BPCR silhouette today and met lo...

Re: That lathe made barrel
Homebrew357 Sweet setup, bet that took up a heap of time setting that up so it worked just right.. Like you I don't venture into big smokeless projects.. I really do like the black powder. I'm fulltime hobbiest. Have built several rifles from barstock. I cast metal buttplates , carve stocks, make ev...

Re: That lathe made barrel
I haven't tried rifling a barrel. I don't want to but it is a months long wait for BPCR barrels. While there are several folks who have rifled their own barrels , few bench test and then tell the results.. What size groups are you actually getting? Nice seeing a guy using a wood stocked traditional ...

Re: Indicator rod for clambering?
You, and certainly I would find multiple uses for a .250 to .500 Pin gage set. CDCO has a set for 80 bucks. Otherwise I grind down round HSS tool blanks using spin fixture and surface grinder.

Re: If you have an hour....
I've had that on VCR for years, seen it many times....What I would like somebody to explain is that iron rod mandrel that is held into the barrel as its forge welded to shape. Why doesnt that steel rod get stuck in the barrel as its being forged around it? I have numerous coal fired forges, blowers, ...
