Re: ZX7016 Milling Machine to CNC
Thank you for the reply. I am thinking that is better to use a DC motor with a speed controller rather than a three phase one... I just found that on aliexpress https://www.aliexpress.com/item/DC36V-220V-350W-1500rpm-7000rpm-Diameter77m-124mm-Double-Ball-Bearing-motor-Spindle-Lathe-Beads-machine-Hig...

Re: ZX7016 Milling Machine to CNC
Hello, I recently finished the ZX7016 CNC conversion. I managed to put ballscrews on X and Y axis and a belt-motor-pulley system on Z. Using an gas piston I also managed to remvoe any backlash from the Z Axis. The main problem I have now is that the Spindle has low RPM. It runs @ 2870 RPM Do you thi...

Re: Building a CNC router
You need a CAM software and the CAM must be compatible with your electronics and by "compatible" I mean that you need the correct post processor. The easiest way to learn how to "CNC" is the 2.5D machining process. That means you generate GCode from 2D designs Take a look at the ...

Re: ZX7016 Milling Machine to CNC
Hello, Thank you for your replies. I have seen a lot of Youtube videos for dovetail mill conversion to CNC. Most of them are on Sieg type mini mills. Main reason I am looking for the ZX7016 is cost, as you all understand. It is 1/4 of the price of a Sieg mini mill. Well.. I ordered a ZX7016 yesterda...

Re: ZX7016 Milling Machine to CNC
Thank you Wes,
ZX7016 price is €400.00 ($493.52). It is very inexpensive compared to the Grizzly you have.
I am planning to put Antibacklash - Acetal nuts, Tr10x2 leadscrews and big Nema 23 motors but so far everything it is just a plan....

Re: ZX7016 Milling Machine to CNC
I see... So even if I use it as a regular mill it will be a "light cut" machine as the column will not be very good in handling the forces.
As for the Z axis, the manufacturer mentions that the Spindle stroke is 80mm. I know it is not much...

Re: Free and easy to learn 3D CAD
Hello, I just saw this post. We use the DesignSpark Mechanical for our projects at work. It is a very handy and fast CAD software. We usuall export the 3d designs as DXF and then we machine them with the CNC or we save them as STL and we 3d print them. The reason I am writing this post is that I wan...

ZX7016 Milling Machine to CNC
Hello everyone,
I am planing to buy a cheap milling/drilling machine, the ZX7016, and turn it into a CNC.
The question I have, and that's where I need your help, is "Is it worth buying a ZX7016" ?
Do you have any recomendations for this milling machine ?
Thank you
Nikos

Re: Drill Press Quill Play.. How to Fix?
Well... I managed to fix it. The quill diameter is 39.08mm and the casting hole is 39.96mm. I fixed it using the "1" method Carm suggested but I tapped 2 holes,One in the front and one in the rear, and I used 2 screws that I made from polyacetal (I didn't have any brass...) I cannot measur...
