Re: Cab Interior Color Question

Green was a pretty standard cab interior color. Stained wood was out there but less common. Of course there were railroads that plastered it in black too, but green was the staple.

Were you able to get in touch with RRSC?
Yes, a very last minute call back from them and the details were worked out. I was able to pick them up and get a short tour of the shop the morning I had to leave New Hampshire.

Re: WTB RRSCo. 0-4-0 Drivers

I'd really prefer the RRSCo. drivers, they're the exact diameter and profile I need, number of spokes, ect. They match up almost perfectly with the prototype I'm modeling.

WTB RRSCo. 0-4-0 Drivers

Hi all, I'm trying to find anyone with some spare Railroad Supply Co. 0-4-0 drivers. I need four of the heavy ones with the larger counterweight. Yes, I know RRSCo. is in business. I've been in contact with them for over two months, and haven't even gotten a price or availability out of them, and la...

Re: "If at first you don't succeed..." Indiana Northern #4- Allen 0-4-0

I had the same thoughts of tying the frames together so that they are made the exact same, and save some time from making them separate. But it also runs the risk of one mistake messing both up, something I think about as I haven't machined a set of frames like this before. Is that still something y...

Re: "If at first you don't succeed..." Indiana Northern #4- Allen 0-4-0

Thanks for the advice on setting the frames up Mike, I'll be doing this on a friend's South Bend, him and I are building the 0-4-0 and his Allen American almost side by side. How do you go about making and setting up your fixtures for your holes you mentioned? I'm unfamiliar with doing that. I appre...

Re: "If at first you don't succeed..." Indiana Northern #4- Allen 0-4-0

Now gearing up to begin work machining the frame components, I'm using Allen's water jet frame kit. Has anyone been through setting up, or have a prefered order of operations for doing them? I'll be starting out with the smaller basic parts, and tackling the large water jet side frames when I'm read...

Re: Throttle Valve

I went ahead and got a ball valve rated for 600°F at 900psi of steam pressure. Insulating the valve is standard practice for me, hopefully it will last long enough to get my monies' worth out of it. As things always go, it's not a matter of *if* but *when* it will need replaced. Inevitably if the te...

Throttle Valve

Hi all. I'm replacing the throttle valve on a locomotive, the valve lives inside the smokebox so it needs to be able to withstand high temperatures. (1/2" valve and also needs to be rated for at least 150psi of steam). Does anyone here have an idea what sort of temperature the inside of a smokebox c...

Re: 1.5" Scale Boiler Manufacturers

I used 1" steel tubes with 1/4" ligaments in the tube sheet. After using a hand reamer, the flue holes reduced the ligament dimension to less than 1/4" on the 1/2" thick flue sheet. Since I had the steel fire tubes already, I expanded those tubes into the boiler shell. Then the nightmares started. ...

Re: "If at first you don't succeed..." Second Attempt at an Allen 0-4-0

Yes, those were my thoughts as well. Just use a shorter stroke and thicker piston to make up the difference.
