Re: Wasatch Railroad Contractors Bankruptcy Auction

I see some familiar stuff- an Aerotrain, what looks like a 15” Crown, etc.

‘All sales final at auction’, anyone who has title to any of this stuff must show up to claim it, once it is sold, it is the buyer’s property and the cash goes to the bankruptcy.

Re: Any drawings for 2.5" scale Mallet Moguls out there?

I volunteer at Sumpter Valley Railroad Restoration and the former Uintah 2-6-6-2s are favorites of mine. I have been trying to kit-bash them in On30 and Fn3. I’ve never had the courage to attempt them in 2.5” scale! I have several sets of the Gazette articles with the drawings of these locos in them...

Re: Should I disassemble my new 9729

I think Pete’s suggestions above are the best but you have a Grizzly machine, they have a retail store and warehouse in Washington so you are in the best position for customer service if there is any. When I was looking to upgrade I considered Grizzly first for this reason, even though they were abo...

Wow, those are very cool Chris! What kind of prices on those?

I plan on using knuckle couplers on the engine and any passenger cars but planning on just bar links for the log train, true link & pin would be a nice upgrade!

Re: 40x60 Workshop

https://unknownidaho.wordpress.com/2017/01/28/a-minimum-sized-multi-use-farm-shop/ I wrote up this article on a purely theoretical basis, didn’t have the space for it then, don’t have any property now in this crazy real estate market. The principles are well thought out, if not practically applied ...

Re: New Couplers, 1.5" and 2.5"

Checking on updates to this. I am getting my 7 1/2” gasser out of storage for the Great Train Show Boise February 5-6 and have budgeted funds for a few upgrades including 2 1/2” scale couplers. But this COVID stuff is hitting Idaho hard, wife tested positive yesterday, the kids and I are pretty sick...

Brick Mountain Railway MTC train

Many of you have heard of the Brick Mountain Railway, a private railroad in central Connecticut and its spectacular 7 1/4" gauge line over huge bridges, I finally found video of his MTC G-16. Very nice route through the 'lowlands' of the property then winding around over the spectacular 1/10th ...

Yes, I'm old enough to have used a typewriter for middle/high school reports. chaski_20210621_0002.png Wow Mister Mac, I am impressed! Though I remember my mom typing daily on her old mechanical typewriter, all I ever did was get the thing so jammed up we were assigned to fix it, clean it and test ...

Re: Upside down images

I believe iPhones and many other devices sense the position of the device and set this as the correct orientation when the photo is taken. Changes made subsequently are stored in a separate file in order to not re-edit and cause quality loss to the original photo. Generally iDevices automatically se...

Re: Tommy Thompson’s 9” steam engines

Thanks for posting this Glenn, the history of the 9” railroad is fascinating, especially that most of it is still around! The tales of The San Juan Islands are of interest to me because my wife’s uncle is from there and always told stories- taking busses and boats to school, ugly little rooster gree...

Re: Smithy CB 1220-XL

Fwiw, when using ER collets as a work holding method in a lathes head stock I'd make a point of not going with a MT tapered shank for the collet chuck. Yes there a bit faster and maybe easier to use. But they seriously limit your work piece length. Lathes have a hollow spindle for very good and log...

Re: Power Models "Maxi" aluminum rail & 8# ASCE

Hi Mike, I’ve been looking for larger aluminium rail and have been advised to just ‘have 10,000 feet extruded!’, researching such a thing, there are no aluminum extenders in Idaho or Utah so it would have to go to one of the west coast foundries, beyond my ability and budget to do such a thing since...
