The frame is cast aluminum. In my build documentation I take you through the pattern making and casting process. Tool rest assemblies and top wheels are aluminum and the tilt and tension assemblies are welded and bolted steel.

Re: Twin 30" Belt Sander/Grinder

Not entirely sure about sufficient power or speed, but VERY nice execution. This was designed as a light machine for small general shop work. It has lots of power for the size belt its running and the work its ment to do (I can't stall it). The speed is 2600 fpm, If it was a larger machine designed...

Looks great. Is that a standard bench grinder motor that you used for power?
Yes 6" grinder, fully explained in my build.

Twin 30" Belt Sander/Grinder

I completed my latest casting project back in November. Its a small 30" twin belt sander/grinder for general use around the shop for shaping and finishing small wood and metal parts and cleaning, touching-up and sharpening general shop tools such as center punches, drill bits, chisels etc. It d...

Re: Dual Fuel Furnace

Scott the firebrick got a light buttering of Vesuvius Super 3000 firebrick morter. That last picture is looking down into my mix wheelbarrow to show the 33% fireclay and 66% crushed firebrick used in the lid lining mentioned earlier.

Re: Dual Fuel Furnace

I am glad you like it RN. I have wanted to build this furnace for a long time but other priorities always got in the way, so this build was a labor of love.

Re: Dual Fuel Furnace

Hi Scotty , for the insulating firebrick I used A.P. Greens G-26. I got 2 boxes for free from a decommissioned power plant I operated so the price was right. A.P. Green is a US company so it should be easy to find a dealer. The hotface is Uni-Cast 70, good to 3200*F, made by United Refractories Co.,...

Re: Brazing And Light Welding Fixture

Yes that will extend there life as well. I don't weld enough to consider this a problem, that was another posters concern. With a little occasional maintenance they will last a long time. If I did this for a living occasionally replacing one is a consumable in the cost of production.

Re: Brazing And Light Welding Fixture

Your right BadDog the conversation did drift to the quality of today's clamps but has little to do with the accuracy of this fixture. As long as they are strong enough to hold the intended work and are made of good weldable material, they will suffice, you control the accuracy of the set up not the ...

Re: Brazing And Light Welding Fixture

Don't know where your going with that you seem to be on both sides of some argument. The accuracy of the clamps is a mute point as long as the material accepts a good weld for the stud. Using a torpedo level and small square I set that example up flat and square in less than a minute.
