Re: New G9729 - Some early issues.

The cross slide however is not so simple. It's gib is locked onto the inside of the dovetail, on the carriage side, and the setscrew adjuster/locks are on the cross slide. This means that it is only the end of the setscrew that slides along the gib that holds the cross slide tight. To make matters ...

Re: Grizzly G9729 Horizontal Lead Screw

Here's another poster's (KB3AHE) process from another forum: 1. Dissassemble and remove the crosfeed screw and nut, clean all of the oil and mung out of the crossfeed nut threads. (I used a gun brush to get them shiny clean) 2. Heat and flux the crossfeed nut threads with standard "soldering pa...

Re: Grizzly G9729 Horizontal Lead Screw

You can try tinning the old nut with lead free solder and seating it into the leadscrew with heat. If your leadscrew isn't hourglassed, it will give you near zero backlash and can be redone as needed indefinitely for almost no cost.

Re: Grizzly G9729 Horizontal Lead Screw

I have this machine, and I measured 6 TPI on the leadscrew. That is consistent with the 6 positions on the thread dial. This could probably be verified from the gear ratios on the change gears, which I would probably do if I was making a new half-nut. The diameter is about 0.787, which is really, r...

Re: Grizzly G9729 Horizontal Lead Screw

Grizzly told me that the lead lead screw was .780" diameter with a left hand 6 TPI. This I already knew. Seems that, doing a little reading, that Acme screws are 29 degrees in pitch. Now all this being said I don't find any taps for sale using this information. While looking around a roughing/...
