Re: 12" working railroad

I was able to exchange some emails and data with the doctor of the patient in Japan that also survived SCLS from the vaccine. I didn’t realize how close I was to dying. The amount of IV fluids I was given before I stabilized was equal to about 35% blood loss to internal bleeding. It’s strange, havin...

Re: 12" working railroad

I am very lucky to be above ground indeed. Many people, even the doctors when I have a new patient appointment roll their eyes like yeah right, until they see my records. My left hand/arm/shoulder is pretty weak and I have a fair amount of neuropathy in the hand and foot. I did manage to wrench some...

Re: 12" working railroad

We actually don’t know the cause of the bleed. I didn’t have any clots or aneurysms, possibly just a vascular malformation. The vaccine response was far worse, I bled internally and coughed up, threw up blood, my lungs partially collapsed, my kidneys failed, I had severe arrhythmia and almost died. ...

Re: 12" working railroad

For this update, still being alive has new meaning. I suffered a brain bleed with left side paralysis and then while in the hospital I was required to vaccinate per WA state mandate and suffered capillary leak syndrome from the vaccine. I’m walking again with a cane, come a long ways but still have ...

Re: Question about factory made coal car wheels.

Is your flat bar sharp corner or have a bit of a radius? That makes a big difference.

Re: Tom bee coupler

Hopper car...it's not so much of a bend...as it is twist...so the lift pin can't fall out. But no so much that the lift pin won't slide up/down smoothly. Couple years back, changed out all my brass lift pins and replaced with steel that was thick enough (slightly thicker than the brass) to fill the...

Re: Saltwater

Automatic transmission fluid is hydroscopic, meaning it will absorb water. Get the water out of any crankcases and cylinders and fill with ATF as soon as possible. The cylinder bores rust quickly and the motor will be junk then.

Re: Treated wood splitting

Pine does like to split, I’d suggest pre drilling any spike or screw holes undersize to help prevent this.

Re: Maximum Enjoyable Grade

0-4-0, wet tracks, will be far different than a shay or diesel with all wheels driven. Also consider maximum weight of the loaded train, I think I’d figured about 4000#’s at a 2.5-3% max grade

Re: Grand Scale Freight Yard Aspirations

The yard at train mountain is pretty big, but you better have a large budget for switches, and tons and tons of time to build + maintain. Often yards on many RRs have some of the slightly more "rough " track, is the mainline and passing sidings get the MOW priority. I built a fixture and ...
