Re: single phase shaded pole motor reversal question

Many posts and info on the web it seems these motors run very hot because of the shaded pole components. It also seems they require constant air flow so they don't overheat. Based on that I don't think they would be appropriate for a mini lathe.

single phase shaded pole motor reversal question

My motor rotates in the wrong direction for my application and I've read this type of motor is non-reversible. However I've found some youtube videos that show the rotation can be reversed by removing the end caps, pulling out the rotor and reinstalling the rotor such that the shaft is at the opposi...

Re: AC 115v single phase 4 lead motor question

Thanks Victor_R. The wire that looks brown, on my motor, is the bare copper ground wire connected to the frame. The motor with unused leads joined was just something I ran across, which led me to ask if unused leads on my motor, should be connected or not. I checked the ohm value of the 3 leads and ...

AC 115v single phase 4 lead motor question

I just got a NOS Shaded pole split phase motor and I believe it is a three speed motor. The leads are black, blue, red and white and I think wiring scheme is neutral line goes to white lead and hot line is connected to any one of the other three leads for low, medium or high speed. My question is ar...

brushless DC motor for mini lathe

I need a new motor for my Boley Leinen 8mm lathe and my web searches have led me to thinking brushless DC motors have very good characteristics for mini lathes. Is anyone here using one on their lathes and if so, what brand?

Thanks,

Watchmakers lathe accuracy

This may be hard to believe but the Boley Leinen 8mm lathe, I've owned for 15 years has amazing, to me, spindle runout accuracy. About 5 five years ago I measured the spindle runout, starting with a last word indicator with .001 divisions and the indicator never moved. I switched to a .0005 division...

Re: tapered roller bearings

I emailed many distributors, in the US, UK and Japan and Timken, SKF and Nachi technical support, and all told me they only make tapered roller bearings in the lowest tolerance class like 0 or K. It seems there is one company, Gamet, that makes them but cost is around $1000 for one bearing. So i'm c...

Re: tapered roller bearings

Seems that angular contact bearings and ABEC bearings are not made in the same dimensions of metric tapered roller bearings.

tapered roller bearings

I’ve spent hours over the last three days looking for tapered roller bearings with tighter than normal tolerances and didn’t find any. Timken and SKF sites list tapered roller bearings with standard and tighter tolerances but I couldn’t find any. So I spoke with their technical support people and wa...

Prazi carriage stop

So after making the handles it seemed time to make a carriage lock. Here are pics and dimensioned drawings. The round black locking pads are a very hard plastic that I tapped to accept 10-24 screw threads. After tapping them I put super glue around the edge of the cover and closed it so when they ge...

Prazi SD300 lathe locking handles

I got tired of using the M6 allen wrench to lock and unlock the carriage and tailstock on my Prazi SD300 lathe so I designed and made locking handles. They work great so I thought others may want to make them. Here are some pics, dimensioned drawings and mounting instructions. Handle mounting steps:...
