Re: Condensation

Burping the engine was one of my fathers favorite parts about being an engineer at the Billy Jones Wild Cat railroad back in the 1980's. I remember riding on the engine with him when he would gingerly coax the #2 out to the end of the tail track by the field. Then, with a grin and the safeties sizzl...

Re: USPS is a mess...

UPS isn't much better out where I live. I ordered a pair of Tom Bee trucks a couple of months ago. They had the correct address on one side, and a sticker on the other with a wrong address. I checked with Tom Bee (company, not person) and they concluded that they had indeed made a typo on a small sh...

Re: Air Tank question

Thanks guys. As a certified locomotive engineer I’m well acquainted with automatic air. I once had a 120 car train cut in two by a motorist that was not pleased that was blocking the crossing. Boy was he unhappy when the conductor took his time walking 80 cars to the cut. Automatic air for the train...

That’s a good point, though I forgot to mention that I’m using a steam driven air pump.

Re: Who makes 1 1/2" scale Builders and number plates?

I had a custom number plate made for my locomotive by a challenge coin manufacturer in Los Angeles. Unfortunately I had to order a minimum of 50. Now I have spares, and few to give away as favors.

Air Tank question

Good morning all. I am working on installing an air brake system on my mogul. The old steam brakes worked fine, but I added brakes to the tender, and I intend to add brakes to my freight train. Besides, every time I released the brakes, my right ankle got scalded from the exhaust. I am wondering wha...

Re: Willow Creek & Orchard Valley Railroad

Good morning folks. Work is slow this morning so I thought that I would share my progress on my home railroad. Things are progressing well. In the past few weeks I have been splitting time between working on locomotives and rolling stock, or building track. The track foreman has been whipping his cr...

Re: Ever get teased for being a live steamer?

Do you guys get teased for being live steamers? Not by anyone on whose opinion I place any value. All the time! I’ve worked for the railroad my entire life, and I have trains at home! So, yeah I get the jokes constantly. But my wife and I enjoy our hobby, and we are proud of it. We have something t...

That is a prop from the 1978 Disney movie “Hot Lead and Cold Feet” starring Don Knotts.

Re: Sunbeam headlight

Thanks everyone. I ended up buying a set from Jack. Gary’s pictures of his locomotives in blog convinced me.
