Jim, FWIW, when doing a cut similar to yours a clamp on the top of the part is a good idea. It prevents vertical motion which can be caused by the spiral flutes, acting as a jack screw, trying to pull the part out of the vise.

Re: Burke/Millrite (Powermatic) Spindle Bearings

Not good if you can see wavy marks on the spindle, metal has been moved and most likely the virtual diameter is too large resulting in the extreme press fit. Mount the spindle on centers an check for roundness. Also check for axial linearity of the surface. The solution may be in the form of grind-p...

Re: Before pics of the drive gear

"The ONLY thing I couldn't find, no matter how hard I looked, was the dimensions on the profile of a #2 and #3 5DP B&S involute cutter. Not in the Colvin and Stanley, not in the Law book, nowhere on the internet...nothing. They told you how to select which one to use, but not the actual dim...

Re: Forklift Tire Question

Just a question, is doubling up on the front tires a viable option? Thinking in terms of better useage on soft ground with hard rubber tires.

Re: Priced gear cutting lately?

FYI: Both Colvin & Stanley and Ivan Law present a way to cut bevel gears using gear form milling cutters.
