Re: Norfolk Western Y6B live steam First Run
hard to know how much 1309 is really being worked. from everything I've heard, it's a bit rough mechanically but who knows. I wish them the best with it, I think it's currently down with some cylinder issues. But if you had it on 50 hoppers, likely louder than how it's run on WMSR. kinda like UP wit...

Re: Norfolk Western Y6B live steam First Run
being a compound, probably very quiet stack talk. The high pressure cylinders can't really be heard, then they are feeding the low pressure cylinders. so the exhaust pressure hitting the exhaust stand is way less on that than simple articulated or certainly traditional non articulated like a LE 4-8-...

In reply to Russ's commment, I've wanted to build a detached shop/2car garage but the cost is just crazy. in the South east - you cannot imagine the quotes I've gotten for a structure, anywhere from 80-130K. Some of the cheap online quotes do not account for insulation, a single mini split unit, lig...

Even the number of 7.5 gauge locomotives that are north of 100K is tiny. Sure maybe the big boy on DLS a few years back or Tom's k36, no idea what the NKP berk built by Bruno just sold for, but probably under 100K? who knows. Now of course if you hire someone like Bruno or godshall to build a big bo...

could also give jeff at locoparts a call as he now has the mercer line. I've read where he has had to remake the molds.

Re: consolidated safety valve adjustment
there are various 7.5 gauge locomotives I've seen in the US running at 140-150 psi, some LE stuff, a heavy mike, a pacific etc. I don't see any issue with that. I've seen quite a few running at like 135 or so.

you are on the home stretch! Looks great!
What's your next locomotive going to be? Could always do a 1 inch scale narrow gauge East Broad top or Rio grande, or a N&W 4-8-0 for something smaller.

Re: Norfolk Western Y6B live steam First Run
Nearly certain that is a true compound, I think built by Bruno platzer using some castings from the UK. Just like the videos on youtube of WM 1309, a compound will not have the double bark of a simple articulated like a challenger or the NW A etc. Would think a simple would "work better" i...

Aren't they 3 piece? I wonder if someone like godshall, or Herring etc could knock out a few on CNC for not that much.
