My Sony LH30 DRO has died and I can't find a replacement. New ones range from $2000-$3000. Looking for a good import replacement. Lots of them out there. Probably buy one made in China. Can someone recommend a make and model.
Thanks

Re: digital readouts Amazon sells
Thanks for all the replies. I could live without a DRO on my lathe but after having one for a long time I'll miss not having one on my lathe. The Sony I have was in the dumpster at work. I was told I could have it but it only had one scale. A new scale 40" long was $1100. I spent days calling a...

digital readouts Amazon sells
I have an old Sony DRO Magnescale that recently died. I see Amazon sells DRO's real cheap, $150-$300. Are they any good?

Re: Bluing Blackening Steel
This is the oldest topic in the book. Tool Black is ok but reuslts are not always perfect. The place I retired from always allowed me to use their black oxide tank. Nothing works like the hot black oxide. After I retired I had to find my own process. I have a heat treat furnace to heating steel. Hea...

Re: Using paper to set gear clearance
I use paper to set to gear clearance on my lathe when switching from SAE threads to metric threads. I just engage the gears by hand with the paper inbetween and thats your clearance. No need to make a science project out of it. Run the lathe and if the gears are quiet your good. Give them a shot of ...

Re: Jet Lathe
I think I have the same JET lathe, geared head. I bought mine new 21 years ago and it has served me well and I expect it to contunue. I use it almost every day. I got lucky and found a used Sony DRO, It really compliments the lathe. Only trouble I had was the drive belts (2) went bad when the lathe ...

Re: The home shop machinist, health of the hobby
People seem to be absorbed with their I-phones these days and they have little time for anything else. Not uncommon for me to wakeup at 3:00AM with nothing to do besides surf the internet for an hour. It appears forums of all kinds have less and less activity. The past few years I have become more i...

Re: Lathe Chuck Cleaning Frequency
Metal chips find their way into the scroll anytime the chuck jaws have been opened up for a large diameter work piece. By this time the scroll is visible and vulnerable to chip entry. When the jaws no longer open or close freely, it is time to clean.
