Re: Thick aluminum/ small welder; Possible or not?
Thanks for the input guys. Kind of about what I figured. No, I don't really want to build sheaves this way, but it was an easy to describe example that pretty much everyone could relate to. Didn't really want to try and describe a jig, or a piece of sculpture, etc. Looks like the choices are quickly...

Thick aluminum/ small welder; Possible or not?
Been looking at some of the smaller TIG units (Synchrowave 180, T/A 185) and while it seems they can do thin AL well, I'm having problems understanding just how thick you can go. I see 3/16", maybe 1/4". listed as being about max for this class welder. I'm assuming we're refering to full p...

Re: Casting Glass
Well, glass is cast but it's a different process than metal. Believe it or not, I've actually got a degree in this. To hit the high points, it takes a fair amount of time to get the glass to puuring temperatures due to thermal load characteristics of the material, plus waiting for all the entrapped ...

Somewhere in the South sounds good to me
DT's place, Atlanta, Birmingham, somewhere around wouod be nice. I'd go somewhere I could get to in a day's driving, but flying across country is a little much, even though I'd like to see Forrest clean sludge off of his planer. Maybe we oughta look at more regional meetings. Seems there are a fair ...

Re: About boring...
Thanks for the description and pics George. I guess I need a longer lathe or shorter cannon barrels. Heck, that's easy, buy a new machine. From what I've seen of real gun drills they must be fed very slowly, as well as needing pressurized lube. Other thoughts that come to mind are piloted boring bar...

Re: Bridgeport Problems?
The handle on my B'port will lock the brake, but it doesn't go over center or anywhere near vertical; you can raise it a little past 45 deg. and it just sort of hangs there, keeping brake locked.
Good luck,
Rob

Re: I have one of these...
I've got two; one rebuilt and functioning, the other has had most of the gear box robbed. No real complaints, but it sure ain't the DoAll friction cutter I used to run. On the other hand I can move the Delta around. One thing to be aware of is that there are old and new models of this saw; the older...

Re: ? Cleaning Machine's Paint ?
Oven cleaners will soften or even remove paint (and grease); usually bad enough to make the machine ugly, not well enough to consider for stripping it in my experience. I have used some of that purple cleaner, which does have sodium hydroxide like oven cleaner, but it doesn't seem to be as strong. I...
